Great place for a getaway
By ,
This is a great place to get together with some good friends. Drop some acid, take off your shirts and throw around a stress ball. It really makes for a beautiful fall day.

Used to be a great place
By ,
The nature trails are very nice. This is a nice place to take a family for a walk in the L/A area. Unfortunately the operators recently decided to forbid dog walking in the park. I don't know if this was from an incident with a dog or from some other reason. Unfortunately the new restriction makes it unlikely I will go back again or donate to the organization. If you don't have a dog and want to take a couple mile hike in the L/A area I'm sure you would enjoy this spot.

Serenity within the city
By ,
Peaceful and quiet, Thorncrag offers a retreat away from the busy city life. As soon as you step out of your car, you can barely make out the low rumble of cars passing. Upon entering through the gate, the city around you is forgotten, as you hear birds singing and the little brook gurgling. There are many paths to choose from, so make sure you take a little map, found right at the entrance. From bird watching to exercising, hiking or leisurely strolling, or just a good jogging workout, this sanctuary has it. Benches are conveniently located throughout, most found by the little brook or any of the many tiny ponds. The atmosphere is very pleasant, even enchanting in places. On your travels through the many different trails, you can find Whale Rock, little wooden bridges, a huge fireplace with beautiful benches all around, and memorials. Bring insect repellent, as the mosquitoes love visitors!

Nearby Escape

I love everything about Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary. I go there at least once a month, usually once a week. It is beautiful and removed from the city. The trails, while not handicap accessible, are well maintained by the Stanton Bird Club. You can see Mt Washington from it's highest points. There are benches and restful vistas, beautiful meadows, history and wildlife. It is a peaceful and serene place. You'll want to get lost there.

Nature's Maze
By ,
This is a great place to go whether you are taking children to learn about plant and animal life or an adult looking to get some exercise with a view. I come here all the time with my dog (you must keep them on a leash). Thee are plenty of different trails to take depending on how long you would like to stay and what difficulty you prefer.
