Lulu Lobster Boat Ride
The most exclusive, unique, and personal sightseeing cruise in Bar Harbor, this traditional Downeast lobster boat can hold a maximum of six passengers and features an up-close demonstration of lobster fishing. The tour last for almost two hours. This boat sails daily from May to October.
Our family would recommend spending time with Captain John aboard the Lulu. John opened up to us the world of the lobsterman,
lobsters, and the responsible lobster industry. We truly enjoyed being out on the water seeing the islands, seals, and even a diving bald eagle.
The kids loved it. My wife appreciated the care that was taken to keep the boat from rocking in the waves. The ride was a highlight of our trip.
Afterwards, our car battery died. Captain John came to our rescue. He went out of his way to jump start our car and send us on our way.
Loved the Captain and his wife. They were genuinely friendly and very much love what they do, you can tell.
He was a great story teller and taught in a hands on, great for the family kind of way. He has a strong passion for lobstering and conservation. Loves the seals and loves what he does on a daily basis.
For $27 you won't be disappointed in this intimate cruise. I've been on the whale watch tours and while the chances of seeing a whale while on Lulu is slim, its still a much better value.
Complimentary drinks and kids get to drive the boat. What more can you ask for on a vacation!
This was a great experience! Captain John was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and appealed to all ages (we had 10 in our party ranging from 6-45 and all enjoyed it). There are alot of options for boat trips in Bar Harbor and I think this is one of the best.
We knew we wanted to visit Maine for our vacation, but didn't know where to stay. We picked Bar Harbor. I had found many sites on going out on a boat, but the Lulu Lobster boat site I was curious about. We decided on going on only one boat on our trip and we were not disappointed. Not only was the trip educational, with the smaller group size it made the experience even more exciting. My husband and I had taken my daughter (12 years old) and my niece (10 years old) on the boat and they loved it. My niece got to steer the boat (my daughter felt she was too old to do so) and she talked about it for most of the vacation. John is obviously proud of what he does and the area in general. He also is great with the kids and adults alike. We just got back from vacation and I have been telling everyone about our wonderful experience!

The small group size and the caliber of the presentation makes this a must-do on your visit to Bar Harbor. The t-shirt shops will not hold your interest long, the land-based sight-seeing is very pleasant but not so different from lots of other parks along coastal areas, and you're going to want something "extra" and unique after (or before) your daily meal of lobster. Seeing the mechanics and logistics of hauling and re-setting the traps, together with a fact-filled commentary, and comment-filled "factuary," about lobstering, including the life, the conservation protocols, and so on, is probably the single experience unique to this vacation spot that you will simply not forget. The next time you're having lobster in some far-inland restaurant, you'll be equipped to regale your dinner mates with substantial lore, just as if you were an old shellback yourself.
