Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo
One of the finest collections of small primates in the nation is located at this beautiful zoo that is nestled on over 80 scenic acres and features over 500 animal species and over 700 plants. Train and boat rides take you on a leisurely journey through the park to see animals in their natural habitat.
My family and friends enjoyed the zoo from the train ride, boat ride, and individual animal shelters. The only dislike was the snake house was one way in and one way out. (Not a snake fan!) But please check the zoo out for yourself, you will enjoy it!
I have been to this zoo on many occasions. I believe the first time was in the late 80's. I will say this much, this zoo has came a long way since the late 80's. It was filthy and a whole lot worse looking in the late 80's compared to what it looks like now. I do believe they are trying to improve it, but at VERY slow pace. If not, it still needs more improvement. All the employees I have came across so far at the zoo were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They have a boat ride, and you will have to buy tickets if you want to ride it. Also, I wish they would offer the train ride again. I did manage to take some of the best looking "post card" pictures when I was there this year. (2006) I will visit this zoo again in the near future. I wouldn't if it still looked anything like it did in the late 80's.
It's a nice way to spend a few hours. Admission is cheap ( $3 Kids and Adults, $4 Adults) and employees are nice and friendly. The boat ride was the best part. You get to see animals you wouldn't have seen otherwise!
The whole place could be wonderful, but it needs a lot of TLC. There were rough looking abandoned buildings, some of the animal areas smelled like urine. (I went 2 different times and it was just as bad both times) I felt really bad for the animals there. Not a good experience.
We visited in July 2009 and had a great time! I took my 3year old son and his cousins ages 6 and 7. The grounds were well maintained and the staff was very friendly. They really enjoyed the boat ride, and the boat guide was great he even answered a million questions from the kids on the ride without getting aggravated which is a plus in my book. Most people would have ignored them. Overall it was a good experience for the kids. They had fun seeing all of the animals. It's really not as bad as some of the reviews say. Take a look and see for yourself. It was a great way to spend some family time together.
I've been to the zoo many times and I continue to go back. Lately they have been building new and better pens for the animals. The new ones look more like the habitat. I think it is a very fun zoo with many different animals. Yes, there is room for improvement but it's good for a small trip.
I have been to the Zoo a few time's Last time I went was a few Week's ago with my new Cousin's and I would say it need's a LOT of Work Since the Train was sent 2 hours away the only thing Lefted to Really do Is ride the boat which the water is GROSS!
