Baton Rouge Zoo, Baton Rouge

This is a perfect Zoo for Baton Rouge! This Zoo has really improved in the past 4 years. They have all new restrooms and shaded areas. My children really love the brand new tiger exhibit. We love to visit in the mornings when it is nice and cool. The plus side about the morning time is that you can see the keepers feeding the animals. The staff is so nice and can tell you all sorts of interesting facts. They have 3 animal encounters on Saturdays and Sundays that my children just love. They also have 2 elephant shows and 2 otter shows each day. We have a membership and it is a really great deal. They have many animals and wonderful staff. It is really the best value for your money. (Less than a movie ticket!)

This zoo is run down. There are many exhibits that just don't have any animals in them. The aquarium has nothing but local fish . . . WOW. One thing I do not like at all, are the unattended animals that people have access to like the sting ray and giraffes. People are allowed to do whatever they want to these animals without the watchful eyes of some attendant. Even worse were the attendants in the children's section of the zoo. They were unpleasant and down right rude. They didn't tell you the park was closing, they kicked you out! The train ride showed you . . . .nothing. It was simply a train ride. Everything is in disrepair and needs paint. Many many better zoos out there for the money. I won't go back.

The Baton rouge zoo is a nice place to visit. All the animals were in spacious enclosures. However it looked like the birds (esp parrots) need a more bigger area, as they were contained in smaller enclosures.Birds do need a larger area to fly freely. So it would be great if the Zoo did something about them.

Although this zoo is very large, it is not maintained well at all. The animals have poor living spaces that do not suit their natural environment at all. Some don't even have shade. I saw trees PAINTED on one of the exhibits. If you ever go to the Audubon Zoo, which is also in LA and an excellent zoo, you will see that the Baton Rouge Zoo is actually very poor. I wouldn't recommend it.

This was a wonderful experience for my me and my girls. We spent the night in the zoo for the end of the year girl scout trip. Each ed-zoo-cator was very attentive to the girls and answered their questions to the best of their knowledge. I would go and stay the night again.

My family went to get away for the day. I find this zoo to be an awesome value for the money. Lots of shade to walk in with many places to sit and relax. The Flamingo Cafe' is a great value to eat with kids. Not too pricey at all. We will definitly go back soon if possible. Wish there were more places to get snacks and eat along the walk.

It was clean,the animals were happy,they have fun with family activities such as Boo at the Zoo.I love my visits there!Children love it! Boo at the zoo is always fun.The tigers,bears,snakes,etc. are very well cared for.Plus if you pay .25 cents you can feed some fish and sometimes you see snakes in the water and feed on fish.It's so awesome!You so need to go!

This is the saddest zoo I've seen in a long time. This zoo needs to update big time. Most zoo now a days have areas where the animals feel like they are in their natural habitat. Not this zoo!! The animals (if you get to see them) are stuck in small outdated areas and they look very unhappy. I felt so bad for them. The monkeys were in small cages and not in the open area they had them marked to be in. We never saw the otters and alot of the other animals. No where to be found. The poor tigers had a little bity water area to swim in. I don't think they'd even fit! It was very hot and there was no air conditioned concession area. In order to cool off, you had to go in the fish, snake exhibit. Only thing with air. They did have a nice park for the little ones to play in. OH and the petting zoo is a joke. You can't reach the animals to pet them and the zoo keeper working that area never came out of her work area. I won't go back. Very sad situation for the animals.

Our family has visited lots of zoos across the country and we were very impressed that Baton Rouge had such a nice zoo, and so large. The playground, otter exhibit, aquarium and train were our favorites. The zoo was very clean and well maintained. Their yards for the animals like the zebra and deer were much larger and nicer than most zoos. There were a few older exhibits that I'm sure they would like to replace if they had the financial support of the community and local corporations. Congratulations Baton Rouge on a great zoo.

They have a surprising amount of exhibits. The kids loved the train ride, which comes with an overview of what you can walk around and see at the zoo. Besides the petting zoo, a few of the cages give you a very close look at some of the animals. I would like to see a few more menu choices at the concession booth, maybe some local cuisine, but I understand that's easier said than done. One other thing to note is that they are currently undergoing some renovations, and have recently finished some. They constructed a brand new otter exhibit which is very neat, and they are a few weeks from redoing their elephant one as well.
