The fellow that led our tour was very friendly and quite knowledgable. The tour was super. Enjoyed the tasting room and the gift shop. All the employees were great. They even appeared to like their job. I'm even thinking of taking another visit to Ky from Fort Worth . My son says I need to go back so I can get him another bottle of Buffalo Cream. This is a distillery well worth the visit. Buffalo Trace, a great whiskey.
What an extremely interesting and educational tour this was. It contained information on the art of bourbon distillation as well as an excellent American history lesson.
The cream liqueur is heavenly and the tasting room/store is comfortable. My first small batch bourbon was Blantons, so it was great to see it being bottled and labeled for foreign shipment.
We will visit again next trip to Kentucky so we can get more of that wonderful liqueur.
Buffalo Trace makes a Cream Liqueur similar to Baily's but (obviously) with KY bourbon instead of Irish whiskey. An amazingly smooth and elegant drink. Since it can only be purchased at the Distillery, we drive from the east coast to buy it - yes, it IS that good!
*I guess KatieP wasn't listening when she was told that whiskey begins the same as beer: cooked grains, so the aroma can seem similar to those whose noses cannot identify the differences. While I wouldn't recommend taking children to a winery or a distillery, in their tasting room Buffalo Trace thoughtfully serves root beer to those underage .
While my husband liked this place, I hated it. It smelled like beer and fish and was not an interesting place to see in Frankfort. =( I thought I would like it but was disappointed. My kids were bored as heck and I don't think I WILL GO BACK. My husband on the other hand already wants to go back. *sigh* I guess it is a man thing.
THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE AT BUFFALO TRACE IS SECOND TO NONE! THE TOUR GUIDE, FREDDIE, WAS INCREDIBLE WITH THE NON-STOP INFORMATION ABOUT KENTUCKY BOURBON AND BUFFALO TRACE. THIS IS THE FIFTH DISTILLERY VISITED THIS YEAR. THIS IS A FIRST-RATE DISTILLERY TOUR WITH BEAUTIFUL GROUNDS, GREAT GIFT SHOP, AND FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE. DON'T MISS THIS TOUR AT BUFFALO TRACE!
Great aroma of Angel's Share greet you as soon as you park in the lot. They have a nice tour and a great gift shop. The visit to the Blanton's Bottling room is worth the visit. You might be lucky enough to meet the industry icon Elmer T. Lee.
