This place will exhaust your kids. Love it. Gorgeous modern architecture. Aside from the museum and hands on experience there is dining, play grounds, a river walk, miniature golf, and theatre. Wonderful family fun.
I liked airplain room. The little discs on the wall look like a screen when the propeller spun. I love the little tornado in prehistoric room. What I liked best was Kansas in miniuture. I also liked the bug room. The room I liked best was the Once Upon a Castle where kids rule.
My biggest complaint about the Exploration Place other than price and the fact that the exhibits do not seem to change (when you are from the "Air Capital" airplanes and flight get a little old), was the lack of staff filtering among the patrons. My daughter, who is 5, was pushed out of line for an exhibit by another child while the parent just stood there and watched! Another child almost pushed her down the spiral staircase! It was a nightmare. The parents just go sit down and do not really watch what their kids are doing while in the children's area. What the little heathens are doing is running amok! A child will get hurt one day and then Wichita will wonder why their precious Exploration Place closed down. I really hope that the company reads these reviews and take them to heart! The staff there is rude too. My son was asking the person working the register a question about a product they were selling, and the employee chose to assist an adult who had just walked up to the register instead of answering my son's question. I really feel that I will not be going back to the Exploration Place ever!
This is a great place for anyone of any age because they have exhibits that catch every age groups attention. You know when you think museum you think a lot of reading and looking at different things, but Exploration Place is all hands on. There is even a Kids Explorer area that is a 3 story castel for kids to just play and dress up. I recommend this place to everyone!
The displays are static, the interactive ones may or may not work.
I have been told by several different people that they don't want Disabled Vets as volunteers or employees because they 'don't need that kind of people here'.
If they don't want us there helping them... they don't get my money!
The activities are the same from month to month, it gets old quickly.
I have purchase the yearly membership for the last 3 years and as I ponder to buy it again, my kids say is not that fun anymore... The location and the building are very nice and always clean.
It would be nice if prices were not so high in the discovery shop.
Great family destination. I have kids in three different age ranges, and the Exploration Place has a toddler section, and places for older kids as well. You can even watch them broadcast the weather. Top notch.
