Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead
Named for a local police officer who was killed on the job, this park offers the chance for youngsters to interact with farm animals and to explore a one-room school house. There are also several gardens, a playground, crafts, a nature trail and a fishing pond. Admission is free, but birthday packages are available for those seeking a memorable experience.
This is a fun place for children; animals, pretty lakes with bridges you can look over and watch fish bobbing. We've been there many times for picnics and field trips...but the last time we went we had the unfortunate experience of running in to an elderly staff member who was in no position to be around children. My girls had been picking up hay and giving one small straw to a goat, which was harmless and they were enjoying themselves with another friend we were there with when along comes a sour faced grouchy elderly woman with her staff badge around her neck and she chewed my girls out and humiliated them in front of bystanders who had no problem hearing her harsh words ringing out clearly. I do not understand what she was so angry about, but it left such a bitter taste with us that we have not bothered to drive the 25 miles south to visit again.
We took 2 of our grandchildren and they LOVED the whole experience. A great place to spend the day with your children or grandchildren without costing you a fortune. We live 3 1/2 hours away but plan another trip to the KC area to take the other grandchildren. We enjoyed it as much as they did.
Great place to take kids. I went with my 19 month old daughter. She had so much fun. There are so many animals to see and pet. You can feed goats and give them bottles of milk. If you go I think Mon.-Thurs. its free. Great family fun.
Liked everything. From cane pole fishing, to bottle feeding the goats, to seeing a bald eagle, hawk, and bobcats. Best of all it is free ( the activities to cost a small amount though). $3 is the most for an activity. Beautiful scenery as a backdrop for excellent kids photography. Great Job. We loved it so much we went back the next day.
A very inexpensive way to spend a nice family day. Lots of activities for children. Well-maintained. Friendly staff.
Activities include playgrounds, farm animals, fishing (for a small charge), educational displays, fountains, mining, feeding animals.
What a gem - and it's free. It's like a hidden secret. The park is always growing. They just added a dairy barn, which I heard is incredible, where you can feed young animals with bottles. There are so many education things to do, from an old school house with small chalkboards and craft projects, to tepees, to fishing (you can rent poles), to animals for petting, etc.. There are also fun things to play on, like an indredible playground, slides inside barns, and fun nature trails.
Don't miss it if you are ever in the neighborhood.
