Fantastic contemporary art sculpture
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/11/07
The memorial brick walkway is adorned with a fabulous contemporary glass and steel sculpture by STRETCH. Many of the bricks are engraved and represent memorials to local artists and arts supporters. The historic Carnegie building was the first library built in Kansas. It has been converted into a lovely arts center that houses a gallery, performance area with a Steinway concert piano, dance studio, several music studios, clay studio with kilns and handmade glazes and several art rooms for classes of all ages. The staff is friendly and happy to give tours of the building. They offer several contemporary art exhibits a year in the STACKS gallery and classical music performances by professionals and students. Instructors are degreed and professionals working in their field. There are two resident cats and many stories to be told.
A must see and if you are there long enough, get to know the staff by volunteering or take a class!
