Alvamar - gorgeous golf course with a great staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/11/09
I don't normally write reviews but when I read that poor review on Alvamar I couldn't help but think the guy who wrote it must have been having a rotten day when they wrote it. My husband plays Alvamar (or practices putting or driving) almost every day; and he loves the course. When we moved to Lawrence the one thing he was worried about was whether he'd be able to find a great, affordable place to play golf; Alvamar has been a God-send. Gorgeous on the private side and great on the public side too, wonderfully friendly staff (which is indicative of Lawrence as a whole--it's a super friendly town). And, this summer (2009) the private side dropped their membership prices to ridiculously cheap in order to get more members: IMHO it's a steal.

great course nice staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/25/07
Alvamar is a great golf course with the best greens I have played on all year. It was pretty cheap for what your got and the staff was very nice. It's all zoysia grass fairways and the ball sets up nice. I played the city course and it has no grass. I'll go back.

If you like to spend money...
By A Yahoo! User, 10/17/05
Alvamar is not a bad course...very expensive to play. If you are looking for a better atmosphere and nicer people...then Eagle Bend (the city maintaned course) is the way to go. Much cleaner, and it sits next to a wildlife preserve. Alvamar, is not bad. They normally keep the greens and fairways in nice shape, but the people can be rude and the homes are everywhere. It really isn't worth the money, if you play on a regular basis or are just in town for some fun, then avoid Alvamar. Go to Eagle Bend and save yourself abour 30 dollars per person and play in a much more relaxing atmosphere.
