Wyandotte County Lake and Park, Kansas City

As a runner, I've gotten bored w/ pavement so have challenged myself to hit up local wood trails. I have gone to WYCO Lake Park my whole life but have never hiked there before. The trails are challenging, yet very peaceful. Sometimes it came out near the road, but that was fine with me since it would offer tired hikers a chance to get out of the woods and get back to better footing. I have always loved the park, but love it even more now!

I think this lake is well taken care of. The grass is cut, picnic areas are clean and wooded areas have deer, wildlife, birds, and even a coyote once in a while

This park has great playground equipment for kids and awesome natural beauty. Hiking trails that circle the entire lake - over 12 miles of trails with new ones being built by KC Trail Nerds. Park reminds me of heavily wooded areas of southern MO in the Ozarks and also mountains of central PA. Stone Lodge on east side of lake is super for large events. Several roadside wildflower areas planted that are beautiful in summer. Winter is habitat for bald eagles that seem to come around every Dec and stay a couple months. My family goes there about once a week. Great place for family fun!!!
