A Step Back in Time
This complex, that sits on 31 acres, is the remains of a Milwaukee Road steam locomotive repair facility built in 1917. Of the 25 original stuctures the remaining buildings include a 6 stall roundhouse (originally 30 stalls), an operating 90 ft turntable, machine/blacksmiths shop, car/carpenter shop, sand house, a wooden sand tower, water closet, and engineers tool shed. Also located in the roundhouse is Great Nothern Steam Locomotive #1355 (listed on National Register) a Class H5 4-6-2 Pacfic that used to pull passenger trains across the northen US from Minnesota to Washington. Although currently under reconstruction it is open for tours on Saturdays. It's a very worthwile visit and an inersting look into the past.
