Bird Haven Greenhouse & Conservatory

This is a great place to go to beat the winter blues! It is our own little slice of tropical paradise right here in Joliet! From the moment we arrived the we were impressed. Before we even made it out of the car we saw several Deer grazing in the wooded park nearby. The buildings are perched on a slight hill with several brick or concrete paths leading up to the buildings. You enter the Greenhouse through a set of double doors which leads you into the main building. You are immediately transported into a tropical environment! The plants abound and there are a number of sitting areas that would be great places to just sit and read,meditate or spend time with a loved one. The brick paths take you throughout the greenhouse leading you from one area to the next. Each one having its own theme. There is a Arid area which has a number of Cacti and other Dessert type plants as well as a peaceful Waterfall which spills into a pool below with various aquatic plants and beautiful Koi. The Birds of Paradise were in full bloom and made for a beautiful setting! I am into horticulture and this was impressive even to me! The variety of tropical plants was great and the layout was even better. The staff was friendly and eager to answer questions. If you want to go somewhere to sit and read this is it! This would also be a great place to take the kids for a low budget outing since there is no charge. You can leave a donation if you would like but it was not a requirement. Me and my family had a wonderful time there and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

This is a wonderful place where the staff all treat you like family. Do yourself a favor, and stop in. There will always be something lovely to see in an enchanted atmosphere. Don't pass up the waterfull room!
