The Joliet Ironworks was such a pleasant surprise! The paved walk, alongside the peaceful I&M Canal, had kiosks to explain the function of the remnants a visitor was looking at, photos of the various furnaces, skull house, and other remains of when they were active. The peace and quiet as we strolled along was beautiful in this autumn foliage. Then, to our surpise was a beautiful view of not only the guard houses on the wall corners of the beautiful constructed Joliet prison built in the 1800s, but it is also the location of the current drama series "Prison Break"! We saw several folks hiking & biking on the I&M Trails. We then learned that it connects to several other hiking trails near Joliet so one can bike in a variety of directions. Wht a nice choice! We felt safed, secure and privileged to enjoy this hidden gem, located on Historic 66 and, free!
