Worth the visit

Book for book, Amaranth has the best selection of any second hand bookstore I've visited in the Chicago area. It's a small shop, but it's remarkable how frequently I've found what I was looking for there. The main strengths are literature, religion and philosophy,nature and history. There are a lot of fine editions, firsts etc, for those who are interested in that sort of thing as well. There is a small but well chosen children's section. The books are all in good condition and priced to move. Amaranth has the best sell-off tables, too, at one and two dollars for good books in good condition.
