This nature center actually ranks with bigger facilities in larger cities (unlike the zoo or children's museum). It has been greatly expanded since the last time I was there when I was in grade school (15-20 years ago).
As a native of Decatur who's lived in a larger city for the past several years, I was surprised at the educational value of what was here. There are several discovery rooms, some with nature as a theme - but there was also a room devoted to ancient peoples of the area. There's a wildlife observation area where in a 30 minute period we saw deer and several varieties of birds. We also watched an enjoyable film.
There are hiking trails throughout the grounds along with a nice bike trail that connects with Fairview Park. We ran out of time so were unable to see what else was offered. You could easily devote a full day to this venue.
Great for adults and children of ages 2 or 3 and up!
