Lovely Photo Oppurtunities!
By Katie13, 09/03/09
Loved the walking path around the lake. My camera loves the scenery. The people in the park are all doing their own thing: walking, running, bicycling, jogging. Wonderful place to visit

Love this park!
By Momma, 03/12/07
I read the other review and I'm really not sure what the author was seeing. Mastodon Lake and the surrounding Phillips Park are wonderful places to go! The playground has always had a ton of kids and parents hanging out, the zoo is simply awesome (be sure to visit Teeter and Totter and the Reptile House!), and the paths and visitor's center are well-kept. I can't speak about the golf course, having never played, but I never felt concerned by the other park visitors. I wish there were more trees/shade for picknicking, and there ought to be a few more "hot coals" disposal bins, but otherwise I think this is a great spot in a big city!

A bad area of town
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/25/05
I would'nt want to break down driving though this area. It is located in a rundown part of town and I was concerned about safety, The lake front and charming little zoo were a pleasant suprise, But I would not recomend it due to hoodlums playing loud music in the park several of them drinking alcohol in public, I was concerned enough to leave the park, I noticed there was also a golf corse but I didnt want to explore too much as the area of town was so shabby and the park had far too many people drinking and acting wild they need some police to patrol there and clean the place up.
