Fort Frederica National Monument
Established in 1736 by James Oglethorpe to protect the southern boundary of his new colony of Georgia, this historic national site includes remnants of a tabby fortress the British built in the 1730s as a bulwark against Spanish invaders from Florida. Hiking and nature trails are on site and historical tours are available.
Very well laid out. You really get the impact of the town and the fort. Nice way to visualize what it must have been like when explorers were first carving out civilization in the americas. Always spend the money to rent the audio tour, you get a lot more information than just reading the signs. Very windy, take an extra coat.
i liked reading up on the history and all of the old things that where found on sight that were displayed on the old home sights and in the main building. the accurate documantation of the houses and who lived in them and the fort was great!
