This forest was inhabited by Native Americans in 1794 and today offers educational hiking trails which allow visitors to see centuries of abundant wildlife, natural wetlands, and an erosion ravine with soil that is a remnant of the ancient shallow seas that covered Georgia 50 to 100 million years ago.

Be Still and Know
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/20/07
The absence of mechanical sounds opens the opportunity to hear natural sounds. That is one of the beautiful facets of Bartram Forest. If you cannot tell the difference between a bird call and a frog call, it does not matter; just be still and listen.

Welcome to Nature
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/23/06
You walk into the Forest, in minutes you are at a lake. You could sit there for the day and watch the Great blue heron and Belted kingfisher and Red-headed woodpeckers and Eastern kingbirds, etc., and etc. No? Then you could walk the broad trails for miles. This must have been what the environment was like before we "tamed" it with roads, houses, and gardens.
