The six earth temple mounds found here are evidence of the Native Americans inhabitance on the banks of Lake Jackson more than eight centuries ago. This historic site, once a large ceremonial center, is considered one of the most important archaeological sites discovered in Florida and it has yielded some of the most significant artifacts in the state.

History At It's Finest

The Mounds are a sight to behold. Just imagining back to Florida's past and knowing that native Americans walked in the same areas you are now walking. It's really cool. Plus you can climb to the top of the site's largest mound, where this obviously was the tribal leaders home. Great ceremonies took place there and as I stated before, it's just really neat to take in the history of the area. Nice walking nature trails as well with some of the foliage planted back in the reconstruction period still growing there. Neat stuff. Check it out if you can.
