Fun Station, Tallahassee

I recently brought my kids to fun station for a birthday party that one of their classmates was having. Despite some problems checking in (lost reservation) the emergency hostess dove right in and set up the party. The kids had a great time during the party and the activities, but what really impressed me is how the staff dealt with the dreaded prize selection part. They never seemed annoyed and tried their best to help the kids pick things out. At one point a smaller child actually wandered behind the counter and instead of getting mad, they gently guided him back to the other side (and let him keep the candy that he "borrowed") I'll be having all my parties here!

The first thing you have to know about FunStation is that everything is falling apart. Nothing's been repaired in years. The bathrooms are never clean. The games are always broken. And the kitchen staff can't be bothered to wear gloves when they touch your food. So why do we go? Because once a week they have $1.50 laser tag and go carts. But what they don't tell you is that they couldn't give a damn about the safety of your kids or yourself in either attraction, which was proven to me and my friends when we went last Saturday. The only people on the go cart rides were my two friends and these two huge, brutish guys who, from the very beginning did nothing but slam each other and try to crash us. For a few laps, we managed to avoid them, hoping that the attendants - who were talking about sports instead of watching the ride - would catch them and, like the sign says, remove them from the ride for bumping. But we weren't so lucky. One caught up with me and hit me from behind as hard as possible, which caused us both to crash, but also my leg to hit my steering wheel in such a way that it fractured the bone just below my knee and not only put me in excruciating pain, but also made it so I'm now on crutches for the remainder of my week. The guy who hit me drove away laughing while the attendant, who saw the crash, meandered over as slowly as possible, got my car unstuck while I tried to tell him about my injury, and then just told me to drive the car back to the entrance, which was impossible because I could not move that leg. When I told him I couldn't, he sighed and asked if one of my friends could come get me then, and then went right back to restarting the next round, without even waiting for us to get off the track safely. We of course reported all of this to the manager and sought medical attention, but they brushed us off and neither apologized, nor gave us medical help, just told us that they would go talk with the go cart attendant later. It's only because of recently put up signs which read that go cart riding is at one's own risk (probably put up because this has happened before in the past few weeks) that I haven't sued this unhelpful, uncaring establishment. But heed my words, the person who hit me could have easily thrown someone half my size - someone who could very well be your child if you let it - out of the car entirely and the damage could have been so much worse. Save a life and save your money - go find somewhere with employees who actually let safety come before their own laziness to take your kids and to go yourself.

Went there on there special Wristband Tuesday night where you get many activities for $15 (after tax). Great deal, right? We thought so and were prepared for a great night of go karts, bumper boats, golfing, and laser tag. After paying, we rode the go karts once and ended up using up an hour of the five that they allow. We tried to get back on, and despite a lack of line, the attendant made us wait. We decided to go to laser tag, but to our chagrin, no one was attending it. To remedy the problem, we went to the counter to ask where the attendant was and it turned out that the attendant was also making pizzas as well as helping with the arcade games. The girl at the register told us that they would call games to begin when they felt it necessary. So we asked about bumper boats. Apparently, the kid running the go karts also had to run the bumper boats, and again, they would decide when it was appropriate to run them. Finally, we decided to ask to play mini golf. We couldn't find where it started or ended because there were no signs (except for the ones advertising their crap pizza). We gave up on that idea and just decided to ask for an exchange of services. We said we would take the loss and pay for one go kart ride ($6) instead of the special ($15) since we didn't want to waste our time and anymore money risking that we wouldn't finish many more activities. The girl at the register said we could get a refund of the $9 and that would be the end of it. She called the manager/pizza maker/lazer tag operator/who knows what else to the front. She proceeded to make a scene saying she wouldn't refund anything as per the no refund sign (there was no such sign and we even proved it to her) but she does exchanges. When we said we were exchanging the special with the go kart ride (because thats all we did), she said that she couldn't give a refund and started getting very upset with us. I can't believe that that place is still in business with such incompetent workers that have no idea of what customer service is about. Honestly, one of the worst choices I've ever made by going there.

Bumper boats expensive, and sometimes you get wet and bumbed :( Other than that, the arcade keeps you dry. You're not allowed to run in laser tag, but fun never the less.

I really enjoy the Go-Kart track. There are no go-kart tracks in this area and I am glad to finally have one! There is so much to do at the Fun Station and it is a safe place for children and adults to hang-out and have a good time! I really recommend anyone to come enjoy the fun at the Fun Station! Bring the entire family to this one-stop fun shop! Not only are there many fun things to do, there is also great food at a decent price! Give the Fun Station a try! The money spent is well worth the experience and well worth the time. There is guaranteed fun awaiting at the Fun Station!

When you walk in you see the layout of the arcade with each section labeled like a train station. The ice ball jackpot is pretty easy to win. There is also a game called Colorama, and you predict which color the ball will land on and that pays out a lot too. If you buy 10 or 20 dollars worth of tokens, you get more tokens, so I suggest buying at least 10 dollars at a time. Some other games are just fun to play also. I can't really tell you about the other parts, because I only visited the arcade:( Some games do not work, but much more work than at other arcades. I would give a 4 1/2, but that was not available.

I've been going to Fun Station since it opened a few years ago. I was in high school then and used to hang out a lot there with friends on weekends and so forth. These days they have the complete arcade area, laser tag, a virtual roller coaster ride, mini golf, bumper boats, batting cages, a go kart track, and a bungee apparatus. In it's early days they had just the arcade games and the mini golf course. The arcade area has a lot of games, more so than a lot of local arcades, but it is shamed in comparison with a 'real' arcade in a bigger city like Jacksonville or Panama City Beach. Entertainment is not something that Tallahassee does well for teenagers and young adults, which is surprising for a college town. There is a lot to do, and it is diversified for many ages. There are a lot of games for younger children, and preteens will enjoy being able to ride along in go karts and play laser tag. I have found recently that the best time to take younger children is in the middle of the afternoon during the week, as anytime after about 5 or any time during the weekend becomes the almost exclusive domain of the high school and college-aged folks. I am also seeing that the facility is not as maintained as it was when it opened. Several of the laster tag packs were not working last time I was there, and these were neither marked nor moved when brought to the attention of the staff. Younger kids who were unsupervised were not helped by the apathetic staff. Several of the arcade games were completely out of order or broken enough to make them barely playable, and these were not marked either. Almost every puck on the air hockey table was scratched or chipped so that it did not evenly glide over the surface. If the owners/management gave this facility the attention it got during its first year of operation, this would be a premier entertainment facility for the city. As it stands right now, I feel the only reason why it still gets as much patronage as it does right now is because its the only one of it's type in town.
