An animated schoolmaster and his pupils depict what school life was like in the 1800s at this schoolhouse which was built over 200 years ago with red cedar and cypress, as well as hand wrought nails and wooden pegs. This school is the oldest wooden schoolhouse in the country and related artifacts and copies of the books the pupils studied from are exhibited throughout. A gift shop is also on site.

Yellow paper given out at Old Wooden School House
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/20/11
My 9-year-old daughter enjoyed the class trip tremendously. However, when she got home and showed me the yellow handout that is signed by the U.S. Dept. of the Interior, I was horrified at the spelling and punctuation on the back under the heading, "The Purpose of School"! Their word "tenements" should be "tenets". Their word "arrhythmic" should be "arithmetic". They did not put an apostrophe in the word "students" to show possession. What kind of an example is this for the fourth grade who has to take their FCAT Writing in March?
I loved walking through the charming old school & seeing how our grandparents might have went to school. Enjoyed watching watching the teacher talk to the children & seeing how the boys & girls were dressed. Sorry we didn't get to go upstairs. The gardens were nice & I enjoyed the music that was playing as we walked around & i thought the outhouse was neat! It was a fun place to visit!
Interesting to see how the children went to school then. Very quick visit, but that was expected, knowing that the schools were very small then. Fun for the kids to see and learn about. We just wish the top floor was open when we were there.
It was very great. I love history and it was neat to see how children learned and went to school in those times. I liked the "meditation room" (outhouse). I also liked the room under the stairs where the bad children would sit. It was neat to learn about the teachers. IT WAS FASCINATING.
