Formerly the Hotel Ponce de Leon, a famous luxury resort built by Henry Flagler in 1887, this building is now a four year, coeducational, small, independent institution which offers an array of program degrees.
This guided tour was amazing there was so much beautiful decor to see not to mention the history behind it all as well. Plus it was amazing to get up close to old Tiffany glass windows that are worth over a billion dollars. I highly recommend visiting this historic site.
Flagler College is set in the oldest city in the country. Flagler College students are blessed to live in and become part of living history. Students that live in Flagler College off campus housing that is close to the school are making a great decision. The historic downtown area of Flager College St Augustine Fl is a remarkable place. The culture and experience that is gained by renting an apartment close to Flagler College is hard to put into words.
The College is beautiful and a wonderful setting. A student from the college gives you a tour. although it has been modernized a little for the college, it is still well preserved. I LOVE going to this college and think it's a fantastic thing to offer tours. Even us students learn things listening to the tours (like where Henry's face is on a tile in the Rotunda, or where the imperfection is...). There is so much to see and a fantastic, small college.
I was born in Saint Augustine and always wanted to be just like my sister and attend Flagler College, it is so beautiful like a castle. The students and staff are very friendly, and it is such an amazing place that you simply cannot pass this oppertunity up!
The tour is worth the visit and the small price to see the Tiffany windows in the current dining hall alone. Visitors should remember, however, that this is now a college. Never the less, there are still glimpses of the hotel as it once was and the student tour guides do a wonderful job of blending the past and present. Highly recommended.
Fantastic preservation of the last century's luxury wrapped up in Flagler's St Augustine Hotel now a private libral art's college. One can really see how the "upper crust" lived and vacationed their winters in the developing South.
Definately recommend spending a couple of hours and taking the tour.
Our tour guide Brent was so knowledgeable and entertaining. The Tiffany windows and murals were incredible. We hope our 14 year old chooses to attend this college in four years. Definitely worth the money.
