Terrible service and unsafe equipment. I booked a two tank dive and rented a BC and a regulator. The boat left over an hour late, and took us to a close in reef. There was a huge rush to get everyone into the water for the first dive. I did not understand the urgency until we surfaced and it was raining. There was a huge storm coming in and they did not want to cancel the dive when the boat was at the dock. Instead, they had us all complete our first dive, then returned to the dock, and then refused to refund any of the price. I can understand not being able to control the weather, and agree that they should cancel the dive when the weather turns bad, but they should not be able to charge people for a two tank dive when we only had the opportunity to complete one dive. I called afterward to speak with the owner and again request that they refund at least a portion of the price we paid. The owner refused to talk to me and never returned my call.
Aside from just the money, the equipment we were provided was ancient and in serious need of repair. The individuals at the shop were disorganized, unhelpful, and often rude.
There are so many other choices in the area, I would recommend finding a different dive shop.
We used SFDH for a trip two years ago and again last week. Both times, the experience was wonderful. I found the staff to be helpful and courteous. The boat is well kept and felt safe. I would suggest this company to anyone. On the trip last week, they did a great job of picking up all the divers before the approaching storm hit. As we went past the lighthouse the skies opened up. It actually added to the experience.
No the office is not much to talk about, nor the gift shop, but the boats and crew were great. I had a great two tank dive, the wreck trec and a reef. Both had a lot of aquadic life to see, good visibility and light to no current. When i booked the trip I read some of the reviews and was a little worried, but you have to take some of the reviews with a grain of salt. I had great weather and calm seas, I was not pampered (and didn't expect it) so I will book with them the next time I am in the area.
If I could give this a no star I would
Lets start off by saying this "Dive Headquaters" is a Horrible waste of time and money to dive with. First things first I had no choice in booking this dive with this outfit. I went through Force-E as a booking agent. They are okay but they are not my issue. This outfit did not check for any certifications to proove were even PADI certified. The boat left 25 minutes late from the scheduled dive time. The Captain of the dive boat was tottaly unprofessional using profanity around the small childern aboard, The "Dive Master" acted as if she was a boat hand and not an actual dive master she didnt go down and lead any dives. We had a bubble watcher along for the ride to do some snorkling once the divers are down, to our suprise we found out they didnt give our child a life vest when she snorkling just a swimming pool noodle for her personal flotation device. We rushed during our SI and rushed back into the water. DO NOT bother with these people they unprofessional. I will dive the area again but with another credited dive shop.
One of the most outstanding aspects of this company is the staff. They were extremely helpful when I accidently booked a scuba trip instead of a snorkel trip, they were able to rebook my group for later that afternoon. Since we had to wait a few hours, the man helping us gave us directions for a nice public beach a few miles away and told us a place to park without meters.
Once we returned to SFDH the staff was efficient with getting everyone paid and suited with the gear they needed. Once on the boats the staff was very energetic and informative about the safety rules and about our snorkel site. The staff did a roll call before the boat left the dock, they also did head counts while everyone was in the water, and before the boat left the dive site. The staff was concerned with safety, but they were also very fun, you could tell they love their jobs.
We went on the Nursery tour; it was really cool, but I was expecting it to be more colorful like the reefs you see on T.V. Despite this it was pretty and full of aquatic life. SFDH was a cleanly place, and even though I have nothing to compare it to, I thought the price was very reasonable especially for the amount of time we spent in the ocean. After the price of the trip, rental gear, and tax it came to just over $40 per person, and we spent about 3 hours actually snorkeling. Before this trip I had never snorkeled before, but I would absolutely recommed SFDH to friends and family!
I have been diving with SFDH for over 10 years. I do not work for them and this is my personal review The Owners, Captains, and Dive Masters are all professional and courteous. The Dive Masters are very informative about the reefs or wrecks you are going to dive. Your personal safety is first and foremost. Their new location is much more parking friendly and closer to the dive sites. I have been on all of their dive boats over the years and all are quite comfortable and easy to dive from. The Captains and Dive Masters will try to accomodate all skill levels and activities from Photography to Spearfishing. Air and Nitrox fills are on site. I have always had a good time with them and would highly recommend them.
My sister in law and I deceided we would take our children aged 8 - 9 years snorkling. We THOUGHT this would be an amazing experience. Boy were we wrong! They took us out a bit.....between Pompano Beach and Ft. Lauderdale where we could still see all the buildings, no problem there. But they did not inform us that there was a rip tide warning. The waves were huge! and then they told us to get in the water. The kids wanted to try it and reluctantly got in the water. Well with the waves we could not even see where the kids were, the waves were coming over their heads. They could not snorkel! I thought they were going to drown. Everyone on the boat was puking due to the waves! It was a scary trip. You'd think they would tell you that we should pick another day. They are the experts, not me! It comes down to money over my kids safety. Think about that before you book your trip!!! PLEASE! Some of these reviews are probably written by them ...... don't risk it! I never write reviews, let alone a bad one but someone should know prior to going. I wish I had!
Boat captain was disorganized, unprofessional, and yelling at other boaters on the water. She didn't exactly foster a fun atmosphere in the water. Moreover, the divemaster didn't even get tin the water to do anything... she was more like a boat hand. Truly, the 'captain' made us feel like we were an inconvenience to her.
The other captain and divemaster from the next day out with SFDH were a bit better, but still not much help when it came to anything. This is truly a self-service dive boat operation.
I have dove with South Florida five trips now, 3 on the big boat and 2 on the 6-pack. Most of my trips involved both morning and afternoon dives to different sites. I have never had a problem with this operation from the first trip I took to my last. The crews have always been most helpful and professional to all divers onboard during my trips and offered assistance to anyone with concerns. Dive/safety briefs were informational for those divers who paid attention. I personally listened to them since they have been around the area for a while and know what to look for and what to look out for. They took diver safety first and foremost. Dive sites were well planned to allow for a good surface interval between. The only issues I saw were some other divers who took their time getting geared up for a second dive and by the time the pool was open, they were still trying to get their gear on. Now they felt rushed but no fault on the crew, they gave plenty of notice to all on-board. I will be back with them again in the future and will reccomend this operation to other divers i know.
