Frosty Mug closed by the Health Dept
By lisa m, 9/16/10
We have been here several times over the past 7 years when we visit family in the area. The last visit about a week ago was unpleasant as the last 3 but this was worse. I remember the good times and piano at the older Frosty Mug in the cellar across the street as it was more of an Icelantic Pub. The food was cold and not flavorful and the service was pretty bad. It took awhile for the food to come out and the things we wanted they said they were sold out. Like 5 items. Not sure how because they weren't busy. We decided to go back the next day for drinks only upstairs at the loung and believe it or not the HEALTH DEPT had completely shut them down!!! We were pretty grossed out because as we complained about out food and service we could have sworn that they were reheated left overs. We ended up going to Pieces for a good atmosphere but over price drinks for what they were then were told to check out the Frog and Monkey former Frosty in the Cellar where we were very comfortable and the food was actually incredible!...Its a shame that Frosty Mug let itself go down because at one time this place seemed pretty cool. One more thing...my credit card had been charged TWICE!! and there is nobody answering my calls...very upsetting

Worst dining experience in years
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/22/09
The service and food was horrible. Ex: appitizer took over 40 minutes, drinks took over 25 minutes, and the food cold. The waitress also had no clue of what was on the menu. Maybe she was just having a bad night, but that is not our fault. The food was also very poor quality. Schnitzel was cold and very very greasy. Never knew a schnitzel could be that greasy, it was more like a plain boneless pork chop breaded and deep fried. The vegtables were so over cooked it was practicaly decinigrated on the plate. The mashed potatoes were cold and tasteless. To top it all off, the waitress new it was bad and she did not care one bit about the service or the food.

Absolute crab

Too expensive for the quality of food you're getting. Absolutely digusting. Atmosphere is okay, but not worth it. Bar drinks are too expensive as well. Worst place to go in downtown mount dora.

FROSTY THUG
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/24/07
Went with my mother while visiting in Mt.Dora, she ordered some time of chicken dinner. Once the dinner arrived (which took nearly an hour) it appeared to be BLEEDING. We called the waitress back and my mother kindly requested to have it cooked more (I wouldnt have been as nice about it). The waitress came back with the chicken and her sincerest apologies because the cook REFUSED to cook the polutry anymore and said this is Icelandic chicken which is supposed to be raw!?!?!?!?!? or as the manager stated 160 degrees???? The manager was EXTREMLEY RUDE and she had no concept of resteraunt management. Needless to say my mother wouldnt touch the chicken and the refused to adjust the bill. I would NEVER recommend this samonela shangra-la to anyone. Upon getting home I looked all over the internet to find something about icelandic chicken being served raw and couldnt find anything aside from health risks. This place should be CLOSED DOWN!!!!

Great Jazz Music
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/2/07
Although we didn't eat, we sat and listened to some of the best Jazz vocals I've ever heard in a local restaurent. Worth the trip just for the music. The bar is on the second floor above the restaurent with a jazz flavour on Friday and Saturday nights

looking forward to next time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/30/07
Great restaurant. My Wife and I sat at the bar. Super service from a very friendly & helpful bartender. Ordered the marinated steak flatbread, which was very different and had an incredible taste. My Wife ordered the chicken salad roll. Way too much food. Beer was ice cold. Not cheap but reasonable for the quality. We will definitely be back. Can't wait. Don't understand the negative remarks from other people, but they should try it again. This place is great.

We absolutely loved the food (& the draft Newcastle beer)
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/28/06
We discovered it in a building in Mt. Dora called the Renaissance Building- you go downstairs like you're going into a wine cellar to get to the place. It's a bar, but with tables that feel private. The food was all wonderful - my husband had a hamburger he said was the best he ever had; I had a roasted vegetable panini that exceeded my expectations. I loved it. The Newcastle beer was served in cold frosty mugs and was excellent. And we all split a dessert of baked brie in pastry w. brown sugar, walnuts, and white chocolate raspberry sauce- heaven! We are going back soon, and would not consider eating anywhere else. We recommend it without reservation. The name of the restaurant makes it sound like it is run of the mill, but it is not.

Avoid this \"restaurant\"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/06
We arrived at the Frost Mug expecting a much different place. Being recommended by a friend, we decided to stay and partake. We should have gotten the clue when it took over 15 minutes to take our drink order when sitting at the bar. Next we ordered the "award winning" Wisconsin Cheese Plate. While waiting for our appitizer, we placed our food order only to find out that they were out of Haddock for the Fish and Chips. I ordered the Filet instead, seeing nothing else that interested me. As a party of six, some ordered soup, Ceasar and mixed salads. After what seemed like an eternity, soups arrived - but no appitizer yet. Then we find out they are out of Caesar salad. How do you run out of salad? Finally, after an hour - our cheese plate arrives. It was very tasty. They offered a round of beverages on the house to compensate. A good hour after the cheese plate, no dinner. We enquired only to find out it was just about ready. After another half an hour and two hours after we arrived, we decided to pack it up and leave. Just then the bell rings in the kitchen and they tell us our food is ready. At this point, nobody wants to be there - but we feel obligated. After dropping half of one entree' on the floor and one not being delivered at all, we decided to pack it in. After a discussion with the manager (owner?), she said that after the story on the local news, people have been taking advantage of her. I don't know what the story was about, but would have loved to see it. We were finally presented with a bill for $146 and four take out boxes. Needless to say, we didn't take either. Whatever you do, avoid this restaurant.
