Conceived in 1984 by a group of Miami's holocaust survivors, this memorial was dedicated in 1990. Although The Holocaust Memorial is a solemn reminder of crimes against humanity, it is also an inspiration that this kind of genocide never happens again. The Sculpture of love and anguish, the focal point of the site, overwhelms the visitor, as do the thousands of victims' names etched into the luminous black granite Memorial Wall. A memorable experience a few blocks from Miami Beach Convention Center.
Me and friends were in miami, not even expecting to see this, we wonderd what it was and stopped, and wow.. i was so touched and actually moved me. I cried, it was a little scary but it really makes you appreicate the times we grew up in.
In Miami Beach at a convention and the memorial is right next door to the convention center. A very powerful memorial, capturing the anguish and human emotion of the event. The walk through the corridor to the main exhibit is truly haunting with the voices of children singing. I am interested in seeing different memorials in the country and this one will be hard to beat as far as impact.
The smallest, most compact but most emotionally impacting memorial to the Holocaust I have seen. Yad Vashem is amazing, but standing face to face with the figures in this exhibit grab you like none I've seen (and I've seen many). Will definately return, hopefully with the opportunity to expose new people to the experience.
I first visited the H.M. while at a convention in South Beach. I couldnt wait to take my kids back there, ages 4, 9 and 12. I did and they truly were fascinated. Simply put, the memorial conveys the message that their school books never will. It is one of many ways to educate anyone about the ordeal.Im returning next week to show my grandmother and sister.
It was not what I expected at all. The power, the pain, the compassion fairly ripples from those black granite walls. I went last year and it still haunts me. I will go again next time I am in the area.
