Ancient Spanish Monastery, North Miami Beach

The site located in busy North Miami Beach is so peacful and quite one think they are located miles from any population. It is easy to reflect and meditate in the lovely gardens and historical chapel. It is well worth visiting.

I loved the monastery. It was beautiful and peaceful and perfect. The only thing that disappointed me was the cost - it was $5 an adult and $2 a kid. I had four children with me - but I couldn't use my credit card because it didn't meet the $15 minimum. So I had to buy something from the gift shop - and the cheapest thing available was a matted print for $20 (they were out of postcards.) The monastery was worth the trip and maybe even the admission fee - but NOT worth the $33.00 I had to spend to get in. BRING CASH!!

My husband and I were married in this wonderful place over 23 years ago. My son is now about to become engaged and wants to marry in this same place. There is a sense of peace and tranquillity here that is beyond description!

Oldest Church in America was constructed in the 13th Century in Segovia Spain and disassembled stone by stone and brought to the US in 1920's The Official Name is St. Bernard De Clairvaux. Park Near the gift shop and walk in if you are attending Mass (10 AM on Wednesday) there is no entrance fee. It is a beauiful tropical setting and can be a powerful religious experience. When I lived in Hollywood I attended the 10 Am Wednesday Mass for years...I would then sit in the gardens and walk the Monastery halls which are adorned with the Coat Of Arms of King Alfonse II and his Nobels..You may also ligth votive candles at the Statues of the Blessed Virgin and at other locations...It is really wonderful and one of the things I really miss since I moved away!!!!!

As a former parishoner, I found the monestary years ago after first moving to Miami. When my son wanted a unique setting for his wedding, I suggested the monestary. What an experience. A more beautiful setting could not have been found. The only thing I found hard to deal with were the tight schedule they have for setting up. The rules are very strict. As they should be, but when you only have one wedding that day, a little more time would have been nice. If you want a great place, this is it. You handle everything yourself. So it's a lot of work. But worth it.
