My daughter wanted to go back to the pool, but we made her go on the boat. By the end of the cruise she was hopping up and down clapping at the dolphins. Seeing the dolphins in the gulf chasing the jumping in the wake of the boat was better than anything at Sea World. When we first went out we saw a pod swimming and it was neat watching them. We cruised down the coast and then came back just before sun set. On the way back to the jetty the captain found a pod playing he ran the boat up to speed and about10 to 12 dolphins played in the wake. They swam with the boat jumping in and out of the water. I actually think the dolphin where having as much fun we were watching them.
To top the cruise off we had a beautiful sunset and an impromptu air show by three old fighters.
We took the 330 to 530 cruise, I heard some not so good reviews and was a little concerned. To my surprise the cruise was GREAT!!! Very informative all crew were great with kids and adults.I am pretty negative about lots of things, but I would highly recomend this cruise to everyone. We fed birds saw lots of dolphins for a long time the Captain knew just what the dolphins would do next and was very concerned about there preservation.I WAS VERY IMPRESSED!!! Thank you Southern Star we will see you again next time.
Our cruise was great. The staff aboard the Southern Star was great. Our cruise went over the 2 hours scheduled because we finally found a pod of dolphins. The captain let us stay out in the bay longer so we could observe them. I highly recommend this cruise. It was a wonderful adventure for my family.
Our family really enjoyed this 2 hr trip! We went on the sunset cruise. (6-8pm) I highly recommend this time, as it wasn't too hot and the sunset was really beautiful. Bring your cameras.
We saw lots of dolphins!!
My family has taken the Dolphine Cruise twice. My boys were able to sit in the Captain's chair and get pictures of them "driving" the boat. Lots of dolphins to be seen. The glass bottom boat really isn't much but the overall experience is well worth the trip. Also there are lots of free tickets to be had as amenities with area vacation rentals so be sure to ask about them.
We stayed at Fun Destin in Destin and your right! The Southern star was wonderful. Areally great experience and made even better by the fact that we wnet twice on our vacation because we got one ticket free each time as part of staying at Fun Destin. You could go everyday if you wanted because you get a free ticket everyday you stay at the hotel. My husband and his friend played golf three times for free to, so I went on the cruise with his wife. We didn't have to pay for the cruise or the golf becuase you get it free everyday if you want.
Don't miss this cruise! It was so peaceful and relaxing, very inforative to. Destin is still a little bit of heaven.
I've been on the Southern Star for times. I'm stationed at Eglin Air Force Base, just across the bay from Destin, and my family loves taking that cruise.
The captain gives a very nice presentation about intersting local area information and personalities. I've spoken with the captain every time we've taken the cruise, and he is very professional. The rest of the crew are young people...mostly college students...who are hand-picked by the owner because of their personalities and their abilities.
I can think of absolutely nothing negative about this cruise. I think it's a great value in comparison to other tourist attractions in the destin area. The cost per hour of traveling on that boat is about half what it would cost you to go for a short trip on a large party fishing boat, and a tiny fraction of what it would cost to go fishing on a "six-pack."
This was the last tourist experience my mother had before she passed away last fall, and I am so thankful that I made the choice to take her on that boat. She was dying of cancer, and her mobility was limited. The crew was very kind and helpful to her throughout the three-hour tour. The captain put us in the middle of more dolphin that evening than I've ever seen anywhere or anytime in my 51 years. We must have seen at least 100 dolphin in various smaller pods all around the Destin jetty.
I couldn't recommend this attraction more highly.
We took the 3p-5p cruise. We loved it. It was very informative. The kids had a ball getting to see all the dolphins! It was a tad expensive but worth the experience. Definetly worth putting on the trip agenda!
I enjoyed the ride but it was a bit long. I was ready to go back to the dock after an hour. I enjoyed seeing the dolphins but I could have done without the cruise around to look at more water. The glass bottom wasn't really a glass bottom but a few glass panels that you couldn't see through. Maybe I just get bored easily! :)
i loved everything about the cruise... we saw dolphins and the crew was great! brian one of the workers was the sweetest guy! the ship was well kept and i loved how the captain let the kids steer the boat! it was an awesome experience
