On Easter Sunday, we drove down to Apalachicola with no particular place in mind to dine. We came across Caroline's on the River, and WOW . . . a wonderful, serendipitous choice. I had a glass of cabernet (Australian) and my husband had a Corona, which was served in a tall glass with a citrus twist. (There is a wide selection of bottled beer.)
My husband enjoyed the smoked salmon appetizer, served over a bed of spinach and red peppers, along with cream cheese and buttered toast.
The green salads are nice and fresh, and all of the dressings are homemade; we had vinaigrette. We were also presented with a generous basket of delicious homemade bread, scented with olive oil and rosemary.
My entree was a stuffed grouper with a lightly creamy garlic sauce over rice pilaf. My husband ordered seafood flambe, a selection of fresh seafood served over what appeared be homemade fettucini, in a boat-shaped dish. The plate was garnished with a flaming oyster shell.
We both ended the meal with coffee, and took a dessert (key lime pie) to go.
The ambience was nice . . . linen tablecloths and napkins, lovely decor. Service was wonderful, and the restroom was impeccably clean!
We'll be back!
Fine dining, excellent food, outstanding presentation

The menu is extensive, the food is excellent, and the presentation is first class. Apalachicola has many good eating places but Caroline's is one of the best. If you want delicious seafood Caroline's is the place to go. We dined at Caroline's last year during February as well as this year and the food and service was just as good.
After driving to four restaurants, all of which were closed we found this. The food was good, the ambience was great...sit outside. The only non recommended aspect was the cats, we found cats everywhere in the town. When we were eating a cat kept coming up to us, I eventually threw it some chicken, but it lunged at me in the process. All in all, I would go back.
