Maybe figure skaters should consider getting up early before school and doing their lessons. Or maybe they should raise money to build an attached figure skating rink. The Norwich Ice Rink is one of the best in CT and they take very good care of it.
While I do greatly appreciate the compliments, it should be noted that I (Yulia) am not the owner of The Rink. The Rink is (presently) owned by the City of Norwich.
In regards to the comments related to dirty bathrooms and general disrepair, all comments / concerns should be directed to Jim, the manager, or the staff at the Box Office. Nothing will change unless people speak up.
The Norwich Figure skating club is trying very hard to get parents and skaters involved with fundraisors so club members can go see proffesional skating shows as a club, have awards banquets, purchase jackets, ect.... But we need the help of the skaters and parents to get more involved in the club by attending club board meetings to find out what is going on in club and to tell ideas and concerns. The President of club is Leslie Christie she is excellent and she is also my best coach ever. I wouldn't trade her in for any other coach at the Norwich Ice rink.
The new owner of the rink Yulia ahs a very hard job trying to get the rink back into good condition. The old owner left the rink a mess, and in worse condition than it is now. On top of that, she ALSO coaches a lot of hopefuls for the Olympics. She was a profesional skater who came from Russia. She was my coach, and was the best I ever had. People who say that the rink is in bad condition should talk to people at the front desk, or try to relize that owning a rink means owning the pro shop too... and that its hard work. Yulia, keep up the good work.
The rink was very dirty, the bathrooms were not cleaned and the bleachers were dirty and appeared to not have been cleaned in a long time, there was a railing that was broken in the bleachers, There was noone around to report these dangerous conditions to.
The Norwich Ice Rink is nice to have in Norwich for us residents and to get out of towners in. The only problem our rink has, being able to get enough ice time for the Norwich Ice Skating Club because the darn hockey takes up to much ice time and we don't get enough time. Also the ice most of the time is terrible bumppy, holes, too many guages (from hockey) and ice chips frozen in the ice. We end up tripping a lot the ice needs to be resurfed twice before stepping out on the ice for club. In other wise the rink is wonderful.
