I have been to Wolf's numerous times as its close to where I live and CT really doesn't have many indoor places around. The staff is just plain rude and doesn't care who you are. The facility is outdated and though they have made some general improvements over the last few months it still leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I had finally had it when I went there on a Sunday morning to go shooting. After a 5 minute pissing match with one of the employees, they finally let my guest shoot with me after they finally admitted to being wrong. Do yourself a favor and go someplace else.
Wolf's is a filthy, outdated, poorly run range. The employees are extremely rude. The facility looks like someone put a bunch of metal on the walls of a crack house and hung clothing lines next to each other. This place is subpar. They say they are open until 9pm and consistently refuse people beginning at 7:30pm; this is a testament to their laziness. There are old, torn, flea ridden couches, old chopped up rugs and dumpster worthy picnic tables, all of which constitute "furniture" in the lounge/stagging area. All of this pales in comparison to the staff. The people that work their probably couldn't be worse. Every kind of jerk you've met at the range works there, unknowledgeable, unhelpful, lazy, insecure and inappropriately arrogant, the type of people that should never be put in charge of anything. Head to another nearby range, Newington, Manchester or Torrington. Trust me it is worth the drive to avoid this place.
Recently went to Wolf's to pick up a rifle I bought through Davidson's online and it was a great experience. The owner was very helpful and checked the gun over with me for an defects. Honest people with a "treat you like family" attitude. Great price too. I'll be back for my next purchase.
I took my NRA permit course at Wolf's in the late '90's, and my wife just took her course a few months ago. Both courses were professionally and patiently taught.
It's a nice, convenient place to shoot, with a port always open. The staff is great, willing to help, and not willing to put up with unsafe shooters/showboaters.
My suggestions for improvement? Make that lounge a place people want to spend time in, not just pass through. Wall it off, make it cleaner and more comfortable.
Overall, a nice place to shoot with a nice staff that recently added a woman. That is important as women are the future of our sport. She's a hoot to deal with, too.
I've been using Wolf's for almost 10 years, and my wife recently trained there for her pistol permit. The range facilities are excellent, but even better are the staff and their courteous, respectful, and professional service. Perhaps above all, the emphasis on safety is top notch.
I've known the current owner for some time now. He has done a wonderful job keeping and maintaining the facility. I would highly recomend this for any person with any level of experience. The service and level of respect and saftey precautions far excede any rang I have ever been to.
