American Wilderness Tours, Estes Park

This was a fun and informative off road tour through areas of the Rockies that you will not be able to go without this tour. Thomas was funny while mixing in local history and pointing out the sights. My daughters, 5 & 7, loved the "roller coaster" section of the trip since they are natural off-road freaks. Some are claiming this company closed but it simply changed hands and is with another very competent management team.

The folks told us that they needed a minimum of 6 to go out for the morning (July 19, 2009) - but also indicated that the tour we were calling about was definitely going out with the 5 people were were now a part of - well done. The tour takes you very off-road in an old military transport truck which is a very bumpy ride up and fun ride down. This is not a wildlife tour but a real offroad (wilderness) tour. It was great fun for us - great 360 views from the lookout tower. They did a great job. Probably not the tour for people who can't hold on tight and weather a very rough ride. A 3 hour tour, perhaps a little pricey ($70) for 2 adults which is why I gave a 4 instead of a 5.

I had called almost 2 weeks before our trip to estes park. We were told we HAD to have reservations to go on the evening trip. The closer we got to our vacation, we were told our trip did not look like it would make on the Monday night trip , so we changed to the Wednesday evening trip. There is no information on any of the advertisement that they have to have 16 to go out, so if there is not enough interest they will not go out. Needless to say, the Wednesday trip did not make either so we were unable to go and enjoy the back woods of the rockies.

We went on the dinner tour last week with our 3 children, (age 22, 20 and 16). We all had a blast! The views were spectacular, the ride was fun (especially on the way down) and the food was great!
