Formerly known as Marine World Africa U.S.A, this is the only combination wildlife park, oceanarium, and theme park in the country. Some of its most popular attractions include a killer whale show, water rides and roller coasters, an animal nursery, a family of elephants, and roaming cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny and Batman. There is so much to do, one day is never enough. So take the ferry across the bay or drive 30 minutes north from San Francisco to Vallejo and bring the kids to take in a sea lion show after you get splashed by Shouka, the resident 4,000-pound killer whale. Check out the new thrill ride The Vertical Velocity. Check website for admission prices and discounts.

techniques of the rip-off
By Tom, 09/28/09
The park's scheme is to offer promos on admissions. They get you by increasing parking prices. $15 cash only as of Sep09. The security check is really a food check. They do not allow you to bring food or water so that they can gouge you on the overpriced food sold in the park.

This place sucks
By John, 08/09/09
My 4 year old daughter liked the dolphin and killer whale shows but otherwise this place is overpriced and overcrowded. The lines are LONG for just about everything. Takes about 15-20 minutes just to get an ice cream. Went today and we waited about 40 minutes to get a picture taken with their killer whale prop. Rides? Don't even think about it if you want to wait in line for that for another 1 hour+. And to top it off the parking lot is a good MILE from the gate entrance, so you have kids you're forced to wait for one of their trams and fight your way on them along with 100 or so other people who are also waiting. Oh another complaint from today: as we were leaving the Shouka killer whale show, there was a huge line waiting to get in to the dolphin show in the next theater, which blocked the exits from the Shouka stadium and took us about 10 minutes just to get out. The place is really unorganized and the staff the park overall does a horrible job managing crowd traffic. I will rate it 2 stars only because my daughter likes seeing the whales and dolphins.

Big Problem with the Security Guards
By Michelle, 07/23/09
We went out for a family night out and ended up watching the security guards completely harrass a small group of kids to the point that I felt horrible and wanted to go home...One young man was walking in front of security and the security guard continued to kick him in the back of the legs and try to get him mad enough to fight back. The kids girlfriend ended up yelling and pushing the guard away, asking him to stop kicking her boyfriend when they threw her to the ground, and hand cuffed her and her boyfriend who had done Nothing.....I was appalled!!!!! This is supposed to be a kid park, They are complete BULLY'S.....

will never return
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/28/09
this place is all about how to rip off people...I have a few suggestions: check your receipt before you leave the window..they charged my mom for an extra ticket and when she discovered it at the gate to get in, they said, "sorry no refunds". If you have a coupon but you think you don't need it because everyone is supposed to get in for a kids price, think again, because they wouldn't honor that deal unless you had the coupon in hand. Don't buy the big orange bottle for $13 that is supposed to come with free refills, or refills for $1 because half way thru the day they run out of all ice, and cold drinks and offer to give you warm soda...nice, on a 100 degree plus day. Bring your own water bottles, they let me take mine in, and I just refiilled them at the water fountain, not cold but a bottle of water costs 3.50. If you are diabetic or hypertensive and need low salt, or sugar or just healthy food, there's not much...bring your own food and tell them you are diabetic or have other heath problems..might help to bring a doctors note as i am sure they would argue. If you bring a cooler, or food they won't let you take it in...you can purchase a locker outside the park for $10 all day, and come out to eat...better then spending 15 +per person for lousy food, but I am sure they are making up for it by charging you for the locker but they gotcha...the parking lot is too far to walk back to get food and drink. Bring a fanny pack not a purse..you will have to lock it in the lockers to go on most rides for another $1, and sometimes they won't unlock. Parking will set you back another $15 then you have to take the tram or walk at least 3/4 mile...it won't be long before they start charging for the tram. My kids had fun riding the rides but I would much rather have them hiking, boating, fishing and enjoying what is left of our beautiful earth, and its much cheaper and better for them. Also was sad to see a penguin swimming into the wall, over and over, until I left...I think he was sick...I just hope the caretaker notices. This place is all about making a buck...I left wondering if the employees get kickbacks for ripping off the patrons...

Not the best on rides
By anon., 06/18/09
Okay, since we didn't want a water park/ride park combo we decided to skip Calif. Great America ( it was also more expensive) and opted for the ride park/marine world combo of Six Flags. Being from Texas we are used to Six Flags parks - Astroworld and Fiesta Texas. The rides at Discovery Kingdom are okay - we thought Medusa was the best, and I liked Kong and Boomerang. The dolphin/killer whale show was pretty good, too. We had no problems getting on rides without a wait until about lunchtime - then it was about 30 minutes or more. I probably wouldn't go back because there just weren't enough thrill rides for me. The internet price was a good deal, for sure.

over priced but fun...
By JessicaR, 06/11/09
I enjoy visiting six flags, it has just about anything for all ages. It has animal shows and action shows, rollercoasters for the young and the kids. A zoo with a variety of animals, water rides too. Arcade games and prizes, many food stands and small shops. Although it does get expensive. When I go with the family we spend around $200 in a day.

We had a good time.
By O.Flores, 03/24/09
I go here every year and I enjoy it very much. I love the shows and rides. Its a theme park and zoo in one so its pretty much you get what you pay for. The only bad thing is parking and its pack during the weekends. But other than that it is alright.

Overpriced Tickets
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/22/08
The television and internet indicated adults would go for the price of kids; however, we were charged $15 more, being retired, driving 70+ miles each to meet there, we were held hostage. The ad has now been changed, but the ticket sellers indicated they receive plenty of the same complaint. Had we know, we would need coke cans or online tickets, we could have done that, we planned the trip a month before. We also could have gotten tickets or discounts through AAA. We believe this is a scam and that other more reputable parks could provide entertainment.

too expensive
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/09/08
a lot to do. Not as good as magic mountain..My family and I went. It was fun, but really crowed. Thought the fast passes were too expensive. Lines are long. Of course the food is high. They don't allow outside food and drink.. They should allow that, just provide lockers for people to use and pay for each day.. They could have a lot more fast rides that only require 48 inches tall to ride.. Need to have more shade in the park.. Nice to visit but I wouldn't get a season pass because it's not that exciting.. Sorry.. Could be improved...
