Went a while back, writing a review now
So I went to Fairy Land (it was perhaps inspired by, or inspired, New Orleans's Story Land in City Park. It DID inspire Walt Disney to make his park). The rule of the Fairy Land was that no adult could enter without a child. Bummer. So, after seeing what I could from the entrance (a fancy topiary dragon) I walked around. Not much to see through the fence, alas. A lot to hear though. Unlike our Story Land (which stopped having live animals in it back in the sixties: the mice in the grandfather clock and the fish in the belly of the whale were liberated from their concrete prisons long ago) Oakland's Fairy Land had various creatures. My personal favorite eavesdropped bit of dialogue went as follows--
Very, very dull male voice--
Do Not Touch The Donkey.
Please Do Not Touch The Donkey.
Do Not Pet The Donkey.
Patrons Are Not Allowed To Ride The Donkey.
Please Do Not Touch The Donkey.
Young Man, put down that stick.
Do Not Touch The Donkey.
Do NOT poke the Donkey's tail.
That is not a tail----
YAAAAAAAAAGGGUURR!!

I wonder if they still have the donkey.
