This festival lasts for over a month and includes various activities in celebration of the Harvest Season. An oompha-pa band direct from Germany will play every Wednesday through Sunday. Food and drink are provided.
The beer and alcohol is WAY WAY WAY expensive here. This is not the Oktoberfest for seasoned Oktoberfesters. The beer wenches are cute, but there doesn't seem to be any excellent service. I would highly recommend the the Oktoberfest in Anaheim as the Hall is amazingly well put together and you don't wait for up to an hour OR MORE for food. This place has only one food venue and one true bar. The band STUNK. Not only do they not funnel music when they take breaks, the continuity of their music while they're playing is shoddy at best. I was waiting for up to 2 minutes for the next song to play. The entertainment is bad as they only had a set of acrobats/contortionists as the entertainment. The one in Anaheim brings onto the stage German traditional dancers who do choreographed routines complete with whip dances and a little yodeling. There's also river dancers that they invite to perform. A little out of tradition, I know, but it's kewl especially when you've tossed back a couple and all you want to do is find something to cheer and hoot and holler. The one in Anaheim also has a pellet gun shooting range.
DON'T GO TO THE OKTOBERFEST IN HUNTINGTON BEACH. You will have much more fun at any of the three mentioned in my title.
The Banquet Hall Bar was not very much fun, and very slow. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It was not worth the time, and especially the money. The beer was excellent but too expensive. The service at the bar was the worst I've ever experienced. If you like clicky packs of 40 something men, then this is the place for you.
The first year I went to Old World's Oktoberfest was October of 2002 with my family and it was wonderful. My mother and grandmother were born in Germany and it was wonderful to see them (especially my grandmother who is homesick)feel right at home with the "old world" atmostphere.
The prices were reasonable and the food passed my familiy's "pretty authentic German food" test. Only problem were the long lines and the lack of bathrooms (I only saw one place where there were bathrooms in the two years I have been there). I went again the next October for my birthday with some friends and it was still pretty nice.. even though I preferred the year before as far as entertainment quality. I'm thinking about going back there this year and maybe make it a tradition to bring family and friends to the Old World Oktoberfest. Prosit!
