The largest selection of Northwestern California's Native American basketry and Humboldt County settlement history, with an emphasis on the late 1800s, is showcased at this museum, which is situated in a 1912 bank building and is one of the gems of the North Coast. The exhibits on display include furniture, glassware, clothing, and other items from the Victorian period.
The Museum (in an old bank building c. 100 yrs old)is typical of a small city like Eureka and is worth a quick look if you've not been there before. Much of the collection is almost 'thrift store junk' (as a member of our group called it) but has value to the locals and when included with the newer coastal Indian collection worthwhile as part of the history of the Lost Coast which of course is exactly what it was intended to be.
