I went to this place 10 years ago. They were good back then. Today I've decided to try it again with my friend. The place must have changed owners. Even the sushi chefs seem to be Chinese. 10 years ago the place was packed. Today only a few tables were occupied. It took awhile before the waitress came to take our order. When she came, she kept looking elsewhere instead of paying attention to what we were ordering. She kept asking what I would like to order after I told her a couple of times already. I ordered the #1 lunch combo, with salmon, sushi, sashimi, and tempura for $17. The sushi and sashimi didn't taste fresh. The tempura was over cooked and didn't taste fresh. The salmon was dry. For $17, I could have gotten better food elsewhere. On top of that, I got an upset stomach afterwards, broke out with cold sweat, and threw everything up. I will not go back again.
I went to Ariake on Olympic Blvd twice on different business trips. I live in the Bay Area and have tried Sushi all over the U.S. and Vancouver. This is my personal favorite.
I had different Nigiri rolls. They gave you huge amounts of fish which is very very tasty. I definitely liked the eel a lot which they preheat in a little oven. Somehow their Sushi explodes flavorful in your mouth.
It's far from cheap though. My bill was around 50$ whereas often I come out to 30$ ( this is me, just me) but its worth the money.
I was several times in the awarded Tsunami Sushi in Vancouver but Ariake in Beverly Hills is definitely my favorite over all places I have been so far.
The time I was there they were not very busy so its a good place for your cozy date as well.
