Wilderness Park continues

A 26 acre park formed in 1982. A charter says it's an environmental park where all things will stay natural, a tree falls and it stays there - except for on the pathway. World travelers had the property and brought back plants. They enjoyed bamboo. There had been 23 species. The large "lumber" species is rather spectacular. The paved path does not travel through much of the property. You could probably walk from the parking lot, around the loop and back up within 15 or 20 minutes. Don't go late in the day, the bamboo makes it rather dark! During the summer DO wear mosquito repellant! There should still be picnic tables at the parking lot. It may look interesting down around the bamboo but during the summer you wouldn't want to be there long (at picnic tables among the bamboo) because of mosquitos. As you walk you will be reminded bamboo is around - running rhizomes have pushed up asphalt and make for a bumpy path in places. It is a different park. It's not all that "neat and organized" because of the charter to leave the environment alone to see which plants survive better. I have never seen such large bamboo varieties or so many different types in one location.

Be sure to take the family and visit this exciting park. A little taste of the wilderness right there at home in Prattville, AL. See the animals and the plants--the flora and the fauna are both very interesting!
