US Space and Rocket Center
The world's largest space attraction features dozens of interactive exhibits surrounding Apollo, Mercury, and Space Shuttle spacecraft. Rockets developed in Huntsville range from the Army boosters that put America's first satellite and astronauts in orbit to NASA's Saturn V moon rocket and the Space Shuttle. The U. S. Space & Rocket Center is the only place in the world where you can stand under a full stack - the Space Shuttle, external tank and two rocket boosters.
We got there after a long drive with a large group of small children planning on a picnic as soon as we arrived. The picnic area is situated at the very back of the facility and you have to carry everything inside and then through the crowds to get there. Once at the picnic area, it's on a black paved asphalt area with no shade at all next to a grove of trees which would have been a better place. I would never plan on having a picnic at this place ever again as it is very user unfriendly for groups or anyone else.
Completing the International Space Station, explains NASA Administrator Mike Griffin, is an integral part of the Vision for Space Exploration.
NASA is targeting June 8 as the next possible launch opportunity for space shuttle Atlantis' STS-117 mission to the International Space Station
My grandchildren from Colorado, love to go there when they come to Huntsville. It is amazing to them. We see and talk about Space in Huntsville all the time. They don't in Colorado. They also enjoyed the TV Space Channel. We are lucky to have the Space Center in our town. This is where Werner Von Braun lived and started the Space program. I remember when the first Redstone Rocket was launched. We all went down to the courthouse square and celebrated. Huntsville, the Rocket City.
