I had taken two business colleagues to dinner at Rick's Cafe Boatyard. We ordered the calamari appetizer which was great. Our waitress didn't rush dinner and worked around our table discussions.
When the entrees arrive, the waitress recognized before serving me, that the kitchen had mistakenly prepared the wrong fish filet with my dinner(even though the sauce and toppings were correct). She immediately returned it to the kitchen to get the correct dish. Within minutes the manager appeared to apologize and provided me with a free beverage. The correct dinner arrived shortly and the kitchen had redeemed themselves as the entree was fantastic! Despite the kitchen error, the staff handled the mistake with class and efficiency.
Rick's is one of the best places in Indy. I've never eaten on the weekend here, but I hear its always packed. So if the people were mad that they had to wait, and it was such an awful experience, maybe they should eat at Mickey D's! I love everything about this place: jazz band, seafood, shrimp cocktail, good drinks, and sunset over the marina! There's a reason its packed on the weekends, this is where everyone wants to be! If you're going out for an b-day or anniversary, go during the week for less crowds. Try the Ultimate Seafood Rigatoni or the Jumbo Shrimp Scampi. There's so many to choose from. Their regular dishes are great to, especially the Filet Mingon of Tuna!
I am sure there will be several reviews written about this day, but I had to vent. Mother's Day May 13, 2007, made reservation for a six o'clock dinner. The restaurant over booked and even with a reservation the wait time was one to one and a half hours. My mother and I dined elsewhere, and I will NEVER return or recommend Rick's Cafe Boatyard to anyone not even my worst enemy!
will never visit ricks again after the worst customer service I have ever had in my entire life on mothers day may 13, 2007
We had reservations for 6 on mothers day at 11am..by 2pm ..we still hadn't received our food that we ordered 2 1/2 hours earlier and yet people that arrived 45 min or so after us had already gotten food. management ignored us and after we
asked for a free gift certificate-they refused it to us and said they would mail it-we didn't believe them-so we told the people waiting outside to get in to leave b/c of our experience. I blame the management for the screw up. we were never even checked on hardly-seemed like no one cared about us-so i'm letting other people know not to go there.
I love the food and the atomosphere. But the customer service and the wait staff was not the best. When we went there the hostess was VERY rude and acted like we were an inconviniance and interupted her standing there and when we asked to sit outside which was plenty of seating she had even more of an attitude (It's hosting, not hard and if you hate your job that much, quit) The waitor took FOREVER to do anything with getting drinks, food, never came back for a drink fill up and seriosly waited about 20 min from first asked for bill till time we got it and took another 20 min to get card back to us. I do love the food and going to eat there but seems like management needs to crack down on their workers and customer service it they want happy customers.
Four of us had dinner there Friday May 19,2006. We loved the casual atmopshere and scenery. Our waiter was very attentive--kept our coke glasses filled. Loved the mashed potatoes. Did not like the seasoning (sage tasting) on the prime rib---but our overall experience was positive. will return
This place is a riot. A reservation is nice on weekends, but niot needed during the week. The menu has a wide selection so you can get an $8 sandwich or a $30 entree. The staff has always been nice to me. I don't know why the previous person has their panties in a wad. The sunsets can be rather bright so choose your table accordingly if you can. Great atmosphere, great food and service!
Rick's Cafe Boatyard was an experience. It was ny first time going and not the last. It was beautiful and nice and all of everything I didn't expect. I loved it. Absolutely! The candles lit at night was acme of the whole night. The overlook and the jazz was breath-taking. I'd go any day, over and over again. I planning to have my wedding catered there!
The woman at the desk was very rude and not at all friendly. They had to ready a table for us on the porch which was okay, but when they had it ready we still sat there for yet another 10/15 minutes and finally the head lady said "are you ready yet?" another rudeness. The wait staff did not seem to know what they were doing. I had ordered the fisherman's platter and cole slaw, which they brought the slaw with the meal instead of ahead of time. No bread was offered, and my husband had to ask them to bring the clarified butter, which the waitress he asked wasn't sure if I could have it and had to ask someone else. My three year old niephew was hungry but no crackers or anything was offered to him, and when they did finally bring the food (which took way to long to wait for) his order was completely wrong and he had to wait even longer. Of course we all gave him some of our food. For the prices you charge, I would have and did expect better quality food, service and lots more friendliness from everyone. We, as customers, are the ones that make their pay, not their inability. They were slow even getting our bill to us, and even after they took the bank card, it took yet another ten minutes for them to return it. All in all, I will not ever suggest your restaurant to anyone, nor will I ever want to return and we had all driven 3 1/2 hours one way to meet there.
