A Great, Family Ride
The Wilmington & Western Railroad is a wonderful place for a family outing for those young Thomas the Tank Engine fans to anyone just wanting to experience first hand the way railroading was in the 1870's to the 1940's. Their line was just recently Re-opened after major floooding in 2003 devistated the line. $9.5 million later, they are back in business with lots of fun train rides. They offer steam and diesel excursions every weekend. Trips inlude a 1 1/2 hour round trip to the Mt.Cuba Picnic Grove for a picnic lunch, or a longer 2 1/2 hour trip to the end of the line in Hockessin, DE. Some neat events coming up are "Speeder Day" on Sept. 16 where all riders can ride a small track inspection vehicle up the line. This is free, the price is included with the Ticket. Also, they are having the famous Autumn Leaf Specials in October, running to Mt. Cuba and Hockessin Saturday and Sunday all month with Steam powered trains! This is a must see with the beautiful fall folliage in the Red Clay Valley. So, be sure to visit the Wilmington and Western Railroad for a fun filled trip through the scenic Red Clay Valley, and tell them that Mark Blackwell sent you!
