I have my connections and have seen first hand what goes on "behind the scenes" The towels that your bare body lies on are not always "fresh." The therapist will put as little energy as possible into the treatment to get it over with for a large profit/ tip. They go on and on about the "stars" that come in...though it's all supposed to be hush hush, I have never seen a star walk through that door. They are trying to build a business based on lies. I can't imagine there ever being a repeat customer. Go somewhere better, there are a million spas in SB county that are WAY better. The owner will not admit that she is the owner while giving a "treatment" so she will get a tip on top of her 100% commission. I think she doesn't want people to know she is the owner because the spa has such bad reviews!
My Christmas gift from my husband was a complete disaster at the Sea Spa. The Manager was the most confrontational person I have ever encountered. Bad breath to boot!!!! After the mediocre treatments, I was treated to the (you will give me the proper tip) portion of the program. I loved it when she not only told me that my husband had received a special deal (less expensive than they normally charge) she told me the actual cost, so that I could tip"appropriately". Of course she made it clear that the normal tip was between 18 and 20 %!!!!!!!!!!!
The nerve! I have never had a more unpleasant spa experience anywhere. Don't go! Unless you want to steam about the absolute worst service ever. I could go on, but trust me...do not waste your money here.
The facility was lovely and the receptionist was pleasant. The massage therapist, on the other hand, was downright irritating. I received a one-hour massage and facial as a gift. The therapist kept reminding me that an hour is insufficient for doing any "detail work." She also commented on her star clientele and how she is responsible for many of the "adorable" celebrities you see on the covers of magazines. My hour-long appointment ended after 50 minutes AND included two breaks during which she left the room and/or cleaned up the room while I sat under a hot towel. I don't think I had more than 30 minutes of actual massage or facial. Finally, I was cold because they do not use sheets. Rather, they use a bath towel that only covers you from chest to knee. Ugh. I've had far, far superior spa experiences elsewhere.
this is the best spa in california!
the atmosphere and people are absolutely wonderful, if you need a good spa this is the place! its the most relaxing and you forget about all your cares when you are there..... a feeling of enlightenment and if you get a chance to meet camille ysebrands you will be happy you did, she has the most excellent spa and i cant wait to go back!
this is the only spa i will ever go to again!
I had a wonderful experience at Sea Spa! The phone was answered quickly and the receptionist was warm and friendly. I received a gift certificate for the "Ultimate Spa" which is 1.5 hours massage/facial. I was assured everything was taken care of including gratuity. The Sea Spa is by appointment only in order to schedule clients in a way that guarantees privacy. You are personally greeted and offered a beverage before your treatment. The spa is well appointed the treatment rooms are lovely. My massage was deep and relaxing. The body products used did not leave a residue. The towels are treated with aromatherapy products. The masseuse was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The facial left my stressed out skin looking much more refined. Based on previous reviews, I had been a bit anxious about going to Sea Spa, but I will definitely go again. I even got a hug on the way out the door. All in all very Santa Barbara - gracious and welcoming.
In reading the positive reviews, I question whether or not they were written by the owner or staff because I can't see how anyone would give this spa a high rating. I also had an "Ultimate Massage" which was supposed to include a facial and reflexology at a "special discounted rate" of $120. What a rip off! It was a terrible 50 massage (better decribed as a rub down), a cheap mask (not a facial by any means) and a couple of pressure points on my feet does not count as reflexology to me. They basically forced me to pay gratuity on top of the overpriced, mediocre services and now I know why - they wouldn't get gratuity otherwise! I wouldn't suggest this spa to my worst enemy!
They sold us on 'The ultimate spa experience' and what we got was a bed with cheap towels, not even sheets, and very mediocre swedish massage with way too much oil. After it was over they said that this 1 hr massage was usually $210/person but they were only going to charge us $120/piece. The mgr then reminded us that gratuity was not included. This is possibly the worst spa experiece we ever had.
Amazing how a spa can make it feel like you're the only customer. Thorough perfection on every level. Being in the film industry and relying on privacy (and the best treatments), I can't recommend Sea Spa high enough. (If LA Magazine names them as one of the 5 best in SoCal, how can you go wrong?)
