One of the best restaurants in Santa Barbara, Chad's is located in a beautifully restored Victorian house and serves sophisticated regional American cuisine accompanied by a basket of muffins that may include jalapeno, cheddar, or rosemary-buttermilk.
My first three experiences at Chad's were just ok. Ok food and Ok service. After many complaints to my wife I vowed never to go back. Well at least if I didn't have to pay for it. And I didn't. My friends gave me a $150 gift certificate and I was up to the challenge once more on 9/8. Here is a breakdown and ratings. Drinks about 4 different Specialty Martinis all terrific $9 - $11 ea. Ahi Martini (hor dourve) excellent. $14 glass of Cabernet - old. Lobster (special) $42 good. Crusted Halibut $20's good. Jack Daniels Chocolate Souffle $10 Blah! sour tasting. Coffee good. Overall if you go and listen to the weekend band that is playing and order some Martini's and appetizers you should have a good experience but other than that for the price.... Forget about it! Total spent $200. (side note - Not for kids) My info. I am late 30's married w/family. Like good food at a good price.
We went with friends to Chad's for the first time and we had a great time! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was wonderful. We did not have dinner, but we did have appetizer's and everything was fresh and on time. They have very unusual martini's, I recommend you visit if nothing other than to sit outside and sip martini's.
With all of the wonderful restaurant options in Santa Barbara I'd say this would be way down the list to try if you are only going to be there a limited time. I had the Brie Chicken Pasta which was a little bland. My boyfriend had the Meatloaf which was better. The butter soaked in rum that they light on fire on every table is a nice touch.
The quality of the food is great and the prices are what you might expect for great food. The atmosphere here, however, is different from your usual "fancy" restaurant. The servers are very friendly and animated, but not in a corporate "go out there and be animated!" kind of way; it's more genuine and not forced. It's very comfortable. And if you happen to go on one of the nights they do their "coin flips" you may get your entres for free like we did! How the last reviewer got anything near bad service I don't know. I've had nothing but a great time every time I've been. It can get crowded (and loud) so reservations help.
