We jsut got back from Alaska and a flight wioth Temsco in Juneau. Landing on the glacier and being able to walk around with the fantastic folks from Temsco was unbelievable. All of the staff were fantastic. For the complainers on this site, helicopters are not jumbo jets. Weight has to be carefully distributed, and not be family relationship. I found the employees to be professional, knowledgeable and fun. If it wasn't so expensive (like all helicopters are) I'd do it again tomorrow. I forgot my camera case at the airport and they brought it to the cruise ship to me. Excellent service!
I contacted Temsco Helicopters to go on a tour In Juneau, Alaska. Although I didn't take the tour in Skagway both areas are ran by the same company. I was traveling with a large group and wanted to make sure that this would be a good fit for us. We chose to take the flight that took us to Mendenhall Glacier, let us get out for about 20 minutes and then come back. We decided to take 12 people from our group, as we were told that 6 people would fit in a helicopter, and we wanted to all go together. To make sure that this would work, at their request, I emailed Temsco with all the names and weights of every member of our group, and was told we would be able to fly together in two helicopters. This was very time consuming for me but I wanted to make sure that when we arrived I had asked all the right questions so this would be a memorable experience for my family.
On the day of the flight we meet our transport without a problem and while we were in route to the facility they had us feel out a card as to whom we wanted to ride in each helicopter. We had children with us as young as 4 years so it was important they ride with their parents. When we got at the facility they separated us into groups. As they called out the names they had split our group into 4 different helicopters with the young children flying in a helicopter without an adult from our group. When we questioned the error they became very defensive and irritated and acted like they were doing us a big favor to let a parent ride with their child. They made the change but then sent my husband by himself in a helicopter with no one else from the group. Again we asked for a change to be made and with four employees confronting our party comments such as these we made "It is only a 15 min flight, just get in," "You were not told you could go together," "We can give you back your money and you can go now," "We already made one change for you."
Knowing that we only had a short amount of time in Juneau, and that there was no way for us to do another excursion (they know that also that is why they knew we wouldn't take the offer to get our money back). We decided to go. I got on the helicopter in tears. For the employees at Temsco going up in a helicopter may not be a big deal, but this is something I have never done and was really excited about. When you pay well over $200 per person to go on a "15 minute helicopter ride" as the employee so rudely said, you expect to go with at least someone in your group. Instead of a memory that my husband and I should have shared together of going up in a helicopter for the first time. I now have a memory of being treated so rudely to the point of putting me in tears.
I later called Temsco air and spoke with the lady that had originally helped me set up my reservation. She promised to have a manager call. A week later still no call.
My advice if going to Juneau, go whale watching. The other half of our group did that and loved it.
Traveled to Juneau in 2009, took the Glacier tour and the Dog Sledd tour, the staff at Temsco are the best, informative, funny, helpful just ask they will help, and the flights were amazing. Very Glad that we took the time to see Alaska from a Helicopter suggesst to all.
I've been on TEMSCO helicopter trips in the past, but this time was highly disappointing for the $350 per person price tag.
I was seated in the back, in the middle between two very large men, and saw very little during the flight portion of the trip. Prior trips were good, but seating has a HUGE impact on whether this trip is worth the expense. I have contacted TEMSCO to address this (people should either take turns in the lousy seats, or get a discount), but have not heard from them.
Two years of planning brought me and my wife from Australia so I could walk on a glacier on my sixtyith birthday! It was awe inspiring, no words can do it justice. Make sure that you cruise the inside passage and walk on a glacier before you depart this life! (Only do it when you have the inteligence to recognise the beauty of the wilderness). Temsco did the area proud. Thank you.
there is nothing like flying over mountains and landing on a glacier. To actually walk on one is amazing. The scenery in Alaska is beyond beautiful, and a helicopter tour is a great way to see it. The person who would be bored here is a sorry person indeed.
We've flown with Temsco twice, in Skagway and Juneau.
The helicopter trip was the high point of our vacation. In Juneau, we landed on the Mendenhall Glacier, and had time to walk around and soak it all in. The views are amazing, be sure to have your camera with you.
While not inexpensive, the experience is well worth it!
I went on a tour which was provided by Temsco Helicopters. Everyone was soo nice and the tour was just amazing. The view and the experience of walking on a glacier- not to mention drinking the water!!!! Awesome! I would recommend it to everyone!
You'll find spectacular views of Mt. Juneau and Mt. Roberts at this wonderful inn built which was recently renovated in
1997. Their rooms and newly added suite have lovely beach front views, private baths which include 2 person Jacuzzi ...
