Our church
By ,
We consider Holy Family our church when we are on our annual trip to Hilton Head. It is very welcoming to visitors. We always feel blessed when we go there. We do not mind the fundraising at all and personally contributed one of the stones at the front entrance. The parking lot is laid out differently but this just enhances the lovely grounds. Everyone is polite about letting others out. We never have a problem and look forward to going.

Acceptable but not uplifting
By ,
Our family attended Mass here over the course of a month. The celebration of the body and blood of Jesus is always ultimately divine. However, the human worship experience is lacking. The music was rather bland and boring, minus the "good" Catholic meaningful hymns. The sermon was always the same! No matter what the Gospel reading was it seemed to be a regurgitation of the basics which the majority of Catholics (especially those heading to church while on vacation) would know. But, most irritating and incensing to us was that the Pastor kept joking every time about the devaluation of the dollar. It was a feeble attempt at humor while trying to get us to donate to facility upkeep. Poor judgment, sorry. Hope he and the musicians change their tunes!

Wonderful Pastor!
By ,
Very personable and welcoming parishoners and pastor. A beautiful church. The homilies given are never boring, and pastor very good at relaying the gospel. I totally wish he were pastor where we live! "Culture of Life" needs to get a grip! If you are not a conservative, maybe he/she needs to find a religion! This young man (pastor) is a Air Force Reservist, and he himself has been to Iraq. He takes on more danger than most when going over there as he, as a priest cannot carry a gun! So there you have it "Culture of Life", the pastor himself has seen the likes of Iraq, and early on when things were hotter and heavier. He is the kindest, most devout Catholic, and would give you the shirt off his back. He is definitely not an old stick in the mud like some priests, and genuinly loves his job, and, as a Reservest, gives more than most! Anyone who attends Mass at Holy Family will feel as the name! That you are a part of this "Holy Family", whether visiting or a regular!

A Wonderful Experience ... For Some
By ,
If you are a conservative Republican pro lifer, you will feel right at home here. Otherwise, you might want to consider stepping outside during the sermon - especially in the months leading up to an election. Of course, if you're lucky, there might be a visiting Jesuit from Savannah saying Mass on the Sunday when you're on the Island.

The pastor is wonderfu! He makes you feel you are at home, while away from home. You do not feel like a visitor, but like a full time parishoner. A true blessing wile visiting Hilton Head!

A wonderful experience
By ,
We have been attending Holy Family Church for many years on our visits to Hilton Head Island. On one vacation there were 22 of us at Mass, including our 80 year old Mother. It is so gratifying to see families attend Mass as part of their vacation. I agree about the parking, but I was just there in this month, and everyone was considerate about letting cars out in an orderly fashion. The music is outstanding and it appears that all participate in the service, and it seems that all that attend are dressed in proper attire. I would certainly recommend Holy Family Church.

A Wonderful Church-going Experience
By ,
Holy Family Catholic Church is a wonderful place to go for Mass and we found it very welcoming. First and foremost, it is very convenient to Sea Pines and all the primary vacation spots on Hilton Head Island. It is just down from Greenwood Circle on Pope Avenue. The parking can be a challenge, as the masses are usually full and the parking lot is not laid out in a conventional way so as to keep the beautiful trees standing. But we enjoy the services so much that we make it a point to go every Sunday, rather than give ourselves a "vacation dispensation" from church. And we have truly enjoyed the services and sermons that were delivered while we were attending. It is the only church I've been to that devoted an entire service to explanations of what *everything* that happens during Mass means and where it came from. A very enlightening experience! And rather than take the typical PC approach to the war, a sermon was delivered on how sometimes Christians must in fact fight for their beliefs and freedoms. Turning the other cheek blindly is not Christian, it's foolish in some cases. And you cannot by definition forgive someone who is not remorseful. As I firmly believe that being Christian is not synonymous with being a pushover, I appreciated this sentiment. You may not agree with everything that is said in the sermons, but I guarantee you won't sleep through them. Lastly, the current priest believes - correctly - that people who show up late and leave early are disrespectful. Be prepared to be called out if you try to leave early!

I am a parishoner
By ,
I would like to thank those who have left their comments concerning Holy Family on Hilton Head. I have been a parishoner for only six months, but have lived on Hilton Head for almost three years. Previously I was a parishoner and choir member at the Cathedral in Savannah. I found it hard to leave the granduer and tradition of the Cathedral for a larger suburban parish with a more contemporary feel. However, my fellow parishoners and our Priest have gone out of their way to make me feel welcome. The aspect of so many visitors is overwhelming sometimes. So many people from so many different places. I wish i could introduce myself and meet everyone individually. I am proud of Holy Family and our unique setting. A welcoming church in the truest of Christian spirit.

Blessed Visit
By ,
Holy Family was an extremely welcoming parish. Their Mass schedule was extended and extremely generous to meet all the needs of both parishioners and visitors. The music was beautiful and the there was plenty of space to accomedate all. The sermon was relavant and the request for financial help was to the point and completely understandable. There is no reason 700 members should have to support 100,000 visits per year alone. I was pleased to help and walked away with a feeling of peace and serenity. I highly recommend Holy Family for your next Hilton Head visit.
