11 roller coasters, five wet and wild water rides, 20 kiddie rides, a variety of award-winning shows, and The Boardwalk at Hersheypark that features five distinctive water attractions, including East Coast Waterworks, the largest water play structure in the world; are just some of the amazing activities available at HersheyPark.
We have become huge Hershey Park fans over the years. We began a family tradition 4 years ago when we realized it was a great family park not too far from NY. It generally does not attract a big teenage crowd which is something we've always liked about it. Kids love the height classifications: Little ones are kisses, then Reese cups, then Hershy bars, etc. They look forward to attaining the next candy classification. Each year we take pictures of their new height grouping at the charts at the park entrance. (Last summer my son made it to Twizzler which meant he could ride the big coasters - he had a huge grin in that picture). Hershey has big roller coasters and kiddie rides interspersed through the park so you don't have to split up the family in order for everyone to have a good time. They have world class coasters (which I love) and plenty of tame rides for my husband (who hates coasters). We were surpised to see in a recent book that Hershey has the 2nd most rides of all US amusment parks! The food is good (there's a great BBQ spot that's hard to find but worth the search) although not cheap. But "cheap" & "amusement park food" are mutually exclusive. Because there are so many rides the lines are not long and we've developed strategies to get on our favorites rides (dine at off hours and get on popular rides at dinner time, evening or first thing in the morning) without long waits.
On special holidays like 4th of July they distribute new candy products as you get off rides.
Our favorites rides: Great Bear, Storm Runner, Lightning Racer. We are really looking forward to the new "Boardwalk" part of the park which will include water flumes, surfing, and more. It's not Disney - but then again it's closer to the NY metro area and cheaper than Disney - and just as wholesome for the kids. Another plus for NYers - there is a kosher eatery to those with kosher requirements.
My wife and I went there shortly after we got married. It was a nice weekend trip that didn't cost a whole lot. The park is just like any other theme park, only the theme is candy. Take the kids, talk about shooting fish in a barrell! Now that we have children of our own I'm sure we will be there frequently.
I am a Hersheypark regulaer. I go many times a year a love it everytime. My all time favorite ride was their old Giant wheel (1973-2004) Think the Id came from nowhere? Well now you know. They have many alsome rides that are still there. If you like coasters try the Lighting Racer it is the best!! I would also try the water rides because you get wet!! Please try the Kissing Tower it has alsome views. The Flying Falcon is great also. Take from a life long fan if you find yourself on southen PA and need a day of maxium fun, you need Hersheypark
