Oregon Zoo, Portland

The Oregon State/Portland Zoo is awesome!! Perfect size, Great location & Creative extras. The size is just enough for adults to burn off lunch & a toddler to enjoy. The location is right next to the Children's Museum for a complete day of family fun. Extras where the incredible Dinosaur walking path. They always seem to have some extra cool event on display. Its a Great time had by all.

The Portland Zoo is not huge but it is still a very nice zoo and worth seeing. Well maintained, good variety of animals, and in a beautiful location.

My Kids really enjoyed the trip to the zoo. Cool exhibits.

Being from San Diego, we have one of the best zoos around and while the Oregon Zoo is much smaller than ours, it was still a lot of fun. We really enjoyed the NorthWest section. It was great to see all the local animals and the salmon display was really cool. The train that goes between the zoo and the tea gardens was a beautiful ride through the forest. You'd never think you are in the city. Us desert dwellers don't get to see so many trees so often. :) It only took us a few hours to see all of it, but it was fun.

Visit the zoo on a day that is slightly overcast but warm and the place just comes alive. If it's hot the animals have a tendancy to sleep and not be seen. We were there on the perfect day and my 4-year old niece got up close & personal (with a glass wall between them) to frolicking polar bears, a lazy oragutan (leaning on the glass looking at her), some energetic seals, and a huge aligator. They were all so close that she and they were touching the same pane of glass. Other notable events were watching a rhino dip his head to drink from the river, a peacock fully expanded walking on the sidewalk next to her, seeing the elephants get their feet cleaned, and a lion prowling his cage anxious for lunchtime. The only animals not excited to see us were the wolves (night creaturs, go figure). Overall a great experience.
