Kaygetsu means a beautiful moon; it also means September when the moon is said to be most enchanting. Moon itself has a simple shape; yet there is a beauty in its simplicity. We strive to present the classic allure of Japanese cuisine represented by our name.
One of the few places in the Bay Area you can get true, authentic kaiseki. The multi course kaiseki meals are made with obvious TLC and beautiful presentation. In case you weren't aware, Kaygetsu is run by the owner of the former Toshi's Sushiya in Menlo Park. The high standards of Toshi's are carried over here and brought to a new level. Excellent!
A feast for all five of your senses!!! Excellent food and service!!! woodblock prints on wall.....beautiful dinnerware... a perfect 10 if you don't count the disposable chopsticks.... try the kaiseki with sake pairing!!
We had an amazing sushi experience at Kaygetsu. You would not think about having the best sushi with the best decor/atmosphere and service in a sushi restaurant located in Sharon Heights, yet this is THE place. Rated 27 on Zagat, Kaygetsu has amazing sushi and great Japanese dishes. We had as appetizers the Kaiso salad three kinds of seaweed, watercress, mizuna, plum dressing and the Yasai tempura seasonal vegetables, tempura batter; both dishes are original and tasty. The decor is sophisticated, cozy and quiet. Would recommend it for a sushi date. Reservations are highly highly recommended.
The Kaiseki was delicious and beautiful -- perhaps not as amazing as kaiseki we've tried in Tokyo, but very worthy given that it's probably much more difficult to pull off here. The sake pairing was wonderful too. We had the early summer menu but since it changes every 6 weeks or so, I can't wait to try the late summer menu. The restaurant is lovely inside as well, very tasteful with excellent service. Nice website too. :)
Very good sushi...but go for the tasting menu. The chefs really challenge the norm and the results are fabulous. FYI, the location (strip mall) leaves a lot to be desired, but the decor inside is fine and the food makes it all worth it.
