TWO Urban Licks

Description

TWO urban licks sets the town on fire with a sky-scraping, 14-foot wood pit rotisserie tower in the middle of the dining area and live blues every Tuesday through Saturday nights. Executive Chef Cameron Thompson's menu consists of "Fiery American Cooking" in a high-energy, urban environment featuring wood-fired meats, fish, barbeque and a Creole flair. Cooked to perfection in a larger than life setting, a kitchen "in the round" amazes hungry, wide-eyed guests. The innovative, domestic wine program consists solely of forty-two stainless steel barrels of wine, with the exception of sparkling wines, champagne and our reserve wines. The barrels are displayed in a 26-foot, glass and stainless steel, temperature controlled tower situated prominently in the restaurant.

My wife and I are pretty serious "foodies" and we had this place on our radar for about a year and finally decided to go this Sunday. Great Food and Great Restaurant. We will certainly be going back soon with some friends/family. Atmosphere was lively and the design of a central visual and open kitchen was very cool. Service was great and the food was even better. My wife had the scallops..... perfectly cooked and seasoned..... the big winner in her dish is their Gouda Grits (insanely good). I had the Bistro Steak.... again... perfectly cooked and seasoned. The Vegetable side and herbed mashed of mine was really good yet simple..... tell-tail sign of a cook and kitchen that knows what it's doing. I ordered a side of Mac-n-cheese after seeing a nearby table get it....... very good as well. Completely satisfied..... we went on for the desserts. Best Carrot Cake on the planet...... easily. Served with a Cream Cheese Ice-Cream. Churned in-house (as is all their food.... scratch made in-house even down to the sauces and meat seasonings). Simply amazing dessert. Also had the Key-Lime Popsicle. Very good as well..... and an interesting and successful spin on Key-Lime pie. Also..... on Sundays by reservation you can go for an all-you-can-eat that uses a scaled-down menu of choices..... and the price is More Than Fair ( I won't divulge but call them and I think you'll be happy). We will do this option the next time. We wanted to eat off the main menu since it was our first time. Overall it is a great restaurant and at a great value as well. Given the portions and quality of the dishes I'd say it's one of the best values we've ever seen. There's a reason the place is jumping on a regular basis. Ultra cool bar area and great food at a great price. Food - A+ Price - A Service - A Atmosphere - A

okay so let's say that I am not easily impressed with the multitude of restaurants in Atlanta. But wow was I taken back this past Sunday. Chris (our server) was probably the most attentive , pleasurable server I have ever had in Atl. If all the servers are like Chris then people should be beating the doors down. Sundays are the best after talking to a few friends because you can eat to your fill. We had pork shoulder and black eyed peas with Squash. WHOA!!!! And get this all you can drink beer or wine, COME ON!!!! I paid for that this morning!! :)p

OMG... We were told about this place while on vacation. The food was amazing. The mac 'n' cheese was incredible. There is a great light and hip atmosphere. The staff was great as can be. The lamb chop lollipops are a must for an appetizer. We will definitely return.

Trendy and Upscale. Great place to impress a date, sit on the patio in the South corner it has a great view of the skyline and is intimate. Try the salmon chips. Yes, inside seating has bad acoustics. Service was great have been there many times and it is consistently a 8

Good, but Not Spectacular
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/25/10
I have been to this restaurant twice. The first time was for Father's Day in 2007 and they were having a low country boil event. It was their first time doing this so it was unorganized and they were running behind quite a bit. The service was pleasant, but not spectacular. The food was decent, not bad, but nothing exceptional. The second time I went on a busy night and had dinner with friends. The food was good, but the service was just ok. I would try them again when they are less busy and maybe I will get some great service.

Great time, but....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/23/10
Good food and the best atmosphere out of any restaurant in Atlanta but I have two complaints. One, sometimes they seat you right on top of other people. Not ideal unless you don't care who listens in on your conversation. Two, they overbook. I have made a reservation there before and I STILL waited an hour for my seat. What is the point of making a reservation!? But would I still go there? Sure.

For what is it, it is fine. But if you are thinking of a nice dinner with one of more and a night of conversation, etc. this is not the place. The food is ok, the service was very good. it is more a place for 20 somethings that want a night out with a group of their friends. I think if you ate at the chef's bar with another person it would be fine, but the place is really smoky from the big smoker at the bar. But a fun place overall.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM HERE IF FOOD IS YOUR PRIORITY (That's why you go to a restaurant right?) I was utterly horrified by the lack of seasoning and flavor integration. The menu looked tasty and imaginative but failed at execution. The price point suggests otherwise. The noise level is so high it's near impossible to have a conversation without shouting. This is really a bar scene. To sum it up I would say this place is Chucky Cheese for 22 year olds
