When I first moved to Dallas from the eastcoast I started looking for a carribbean restaurant due to the fact they are plentiful on the eastcoast. I found this restuarant and ordered the curry chicken and my wife got the jerk. The food was fantastic and I can honestly say this is my favorite restaurant in the DFW. You get a great meal for an inexpensive price. I am now hooked on the jerk and at Thanksgiving and Christmas you can order a whole jerk turkey and chicken. We compared it to the Popeyes cajun turkey this past thanksgiving and hands down the jerk was the fan favorite. If you get a chance you have to check this restaurant out and I guarantee you a great experience.
I've been craving Caribbean food for months now. Honestly I haven't been since my last treck to Elaine's. I must say this place surpassed Elaine's by miles. The Jerk Chicken I had was on target ! My idea of Jerk Chicken is that if your mouth ain't burning then you aren't eating it Taste of the Islands definately stuck to that standard. The think that could have made it better was if it were grilled. My wife had the stewed chicken since she's not a spicy fanatic like myself nor has she ever had caribbean food and she loved it as well. The ambiance and service are great very homey and down to earth. So far this is the best Caribbean I've had in the DFW and will be using this as the standard.
Excellent food. The jerk chicken and curried goat were awesome! Owners are very nice people. I've been missing island food since I moved to Dallas 3 years ago. I'm soo happy I found this place that I will be a regular. Large portions, great prices and very comfortable.
Interesting to say the least...
The Jerk chicken was spicy, had nice flavor.
The curried beef was okay--lotta bones.
The beef meat pie thingy was okay...but seemed to be a frozen product...I might be wrong-they we the dissapointment.
Eat in-have a beer, a spicy gingerale and you'll enjoy the conversation!
The food here is mediocre. This is a mom & pop grocery cum restaurant. Very very small, No airconditioning when we were there.
Food is authentic but very mediocre. Went there since they had the buy 1 get 1 free entertainment book coupon. Wouldn't go there even with the coupon again. Not worth it. Pretty downmarket for the location.
I love the Chicken Roti wraps at this restaurant. Also they have a Lunch Buffet on Thursdays & Fridays I think from 11-2 They have Goat, jerk chicken, fish, rice and different veggies and other stuff from the regular menu. A good way to try everything. The people are always so nice. They let you Know that they appreciate your patronage in these tough times.
