Beware of eatting at the location at Blue Mound Rd in Fort Worth. Apparently, their lack of food safety made our family very sick. I would not recommend this place to eat at all. I am still waiting for their corporate office to contact me about the seriousness of this matter.
Well today me and my friend went there I usally go but today we had very very Bad service I mean we sat in our table not attended and even folks that came after us were helped before we were the worker there told us that these waitress have these problem well I hope they fix that remember YOUR CUSTOMER'S THAT YOU LOSE SLOWLY and they say times are tough maybe it's THE SERVICE THAT'S TOUGH STAY AWAY ONLY IF YOU GOT A HOUR TO BURN
Update: 02/23/08 - About 6 weeks ago I went to Dixie House for my usual every other week trip. I again ordered my usual, the usually great Chicken Fried Steak. This time was different though. The CFS I was served this time had a rank, acrid taste that was thoroughly unenjoyable. Not only me, but the diner at the next table noticed it too and also complained to the waitress. Not sure, but we both think it had something to do with the batter. I choked down part of it, and then told the waitress to take it away. She then brought me a hamburger steak as a replacement, but it was served cold and also not enjoyable. The meal was so bad, I shouldn't have had to pay for it. I haven't been back since, but I miss the CFS I used to have so much, sometime within the next few weeks I'll risk it again to see if it's back to normal.
OK, I almost hate to admit it, but this is one of the two best chicken fried steaks around. The other one being at Dove Creek Cafe on Hwy. 377 in Roanoke. It's hard to choose which one I like best, but this one at Dixie House has a hint of garlic that just makes it scrumptious.
The reason I hate to admit it is because I have a hard time believing that any thing served so soon after I order could be so good. I've never been any other time than lunch, but during lunch hour the service is lightning fast. Yes, it's crowded at lunch and you may wait a couple of minutes for at table, but never very long. This is due to the speed at which they serve each table.
Best green beans around bar none. Now they are cooked, if you are one of those veggie purists that think all vegetables still have to be crisp, then this is not the place for you. On the other hand, if you like to eat vegetarian and have good food, they have a great veggie plate. Let me warn you that the green beans and twice-baked potatos both have bacon added, so if your extremely picky about the meat, go for other veggies.
Meat loaf is great, baked chicken is great, it's all great.
One of the few restaurants around that knows how to do lunch right. A very filling meal at a fair price. You will be asked no less than 4 times (usually 5) if you would like dessert. Just part of the fun, and you can't go wrong if you decide to get some. (I recommend the German chocolate cake when it's available).
Head to Dixie House soon and enjoy some of the best home cooking anywhere!
I love Dixie House!!! The food is great...you can't go wrong with any of the specials. The servers are fast and nice...great place for an hour lunch break because you get your food in 5 minutes or less!
This place has changed its hours so many times I have no idea when to go. Then again, after my first horrible experience I'd rather not return anyway. Bad greasy food and the servers rushed us through. Lousy value. I can't imagine why I would ever go back. I suggest you don't go either.
I have not had a bad experience here. They serve cooking that tastes like mom has been at it in the kitchen for a while. It's the only place where I will eat my chicken fried steak.
They have their lunch specials on white boards around the room. You choose a main entree and two sides. Believe me when I say you will get a ton of food!!
They also have Atkin's plates that you can order if you are on a diet. They taste great! (Expect a longer wait for your food however). Honestly, I have never had bad food here, so choose anything that sounds appealing.
The service is spectacular. For the first time last week, we had to wait for a table. The owner of the cafe personally made sure we got a table, and gave us dessert on the house for allowing other customers to be seated prior to us.
Sometimes we have to tell the wait staff that we are not ready several times, as they are at the ready to take our orders. The average wait time for the food is about 5-10 minutes.
